nutter 1 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 (edited) hey every one my e30 325i Auto 1989 project due to certain reasons i have started my conversion earlier as i wont be able to drive, so here is what i have done on my first day removed radiator removed damage guard and pretty much got my engine to the sage that it being hold in by 5 bolts and is ready to pull i am doing the e30 to e36 power steering first off as it is stuffed. Whats the best ratio to get remembering that i will be wanting to put this can on the track a bit, and on the road? edit: some real good info http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=21448 i have a really heavy metal air box does this mean i have a South African version ?(this would be cool as unfortunately i am to a safa hahahaha ) and what is the best way to get round the brake booster i was thinking e12 brake booster but what one is the easiest to do here is some photos of what i have done Edited September 13, 2010 by nutterbutter
Matty104 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 will keep an eye on this one, looks like a good project, yea the airbox does sway it towards a saffa, along with the battery being in the boot. other tell tail signs age armour guard windows ( i think thats what there called), sump guard , and long range fuel tank (75 ish liters) which means you will have a fuel tank behind the rear seat aswell as the normal one. Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 Looks german to me. The best brake booster is from an E34 4wd, early E32, or 325ix, but don't see many of them. It's the double chamber version, smaller diameter and fits straight in, no mods needed.
polley 916 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 If you go the e32 booster route you will need to sort out a remote mounted resovoir.
_ethrty-Andy_ 2136 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 im running the porsche 944 booster but wouldnt really recomend it. it provides very little assistance. will be upgrading the pads and fluid in the near future anyway, but if i did it again would go for something else. however it does bolt straight in, needed NO modification everything just bolts straight up, and no need for a remote reservoir. Jacko 2158 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 (edited) Shweet man, be keeping an eye on this one. FWIW my 85 323 has a metal airbox and is german assembled. From the research ive done, and people ive talked to in the UK, the Renault Clio booster from around year 99-01 (your after one from a clio with plastic front gaurds) is the better booster of the lot in terms of feel/performance. Its straight bolt in, and much newer than any of the other options. One of the wreckers in auckland has some on the shelf, its on my list of things to do to go get one from him. Cant find his name in my M50 swap notepad ( ), but he specialises in renaults and jags which should narrow it down. Im not 100% but id put money on a 944 booster being identical to a VW golf one, I had a 944 for 4 years and theyre a VW partsbin on wheels, when it wasnt catching on fire it was a cool car though Edited September 13, 2010 by Jacko

Jacko 2158 Report post Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) Nah the clio one is a smaller diameter, fits the E30 master cylinder and the mount bolts are the same Lots of different radiator options, im using a E36 328i one with built in tank. You will have to go electric fan, theres no clearance at the front of the engine, so fan goes on front side of radiator. Whats the Z3 for? Whats the Z3 for? lol sorry was tired when i wrote that i mean the steering rack off a z3 would it fit? but i think i have it sorted with a e36 rack but i am still interseted in the z3 steering rack and if it will fit, yeah i was thinking that was the case, thats good ill just hook it up to turn on the fan with the ignition or a switch on the side. some more work should be happening soon. nutter 1 Report post Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) hey ok some updates(fark all done really as still only got one hand) removed a few other things inside and around the engine bay, 1.i found a small amount of rust that turned a bit nasty for me(welding with the rong hand is NOT easy) ill be cutting it back out and redoing it when hands better it looks horrible so please dont laugh to much when you see the pic im normally better. 2. removed air con and pump and tubes, so if any one needs the tubes or pump just pm me a box of beer would do hahahahaha , keeping the fan though the cor might be dead as when i pulled it out on of the copper tubs bent and broke, 3. started removing interior to try sort out sun roof leak. 4. removed break booster, 5. drained oil to remove oil cooler, so nothing realy to do with the conversion dads using the hoist so yeah got to wait for him to hahahaha Edited September 20, 2010 by nutterbutter
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted September 21, 2010 MK1 / MK2 golf brake booster is the easiest. Just straight replacement for a e30 booster, uses the same e30 master cylinder and everything so no need to mess around with remote reserviours and moving brake lines around etc.
