Cheap V8?

Recommended Posts

De-registered, and could do with a paintjob but looks alright. I wonder if it would be worth re-registering it, as a tow-car for the GFs horses haha

Edit: Correct link..

Looks like one to avoid.

You could get a legit on the road example for around 4k, and it would probably be a 4.0L version.

Also note that ones had a silver respray over a dark blue body... not a good start!

It's even got a tan doorliner!

Maybe worth 1k... since it's Ex UK and probably has rust.

The GF wants the tow-pig to be 4wd so it can handle paddocks, but in my price range there is no such thing as a reliable 4wd. Been very tempted to get a v8 land rover or range rover, just because then at least it'd sound good!

Get a Hilux 4x4 if you want a reliable work horse.

If you are after a tow vehicle, Ford Explorer it!

I have the V6 but it will still tow the cr@p out of a Hilux plus IMO looks better, is bigger ;)

What? I only ever hear really bad things about the Ford Exploder.

+1 cruddy bogan spec falcon wagon. with heavy tow pack can tow like 2,500kg

Not fully seriously looking yet, I'd rather finish my CPL first. But probably gonna be looking around $3k, in September or later. Bogan-spec falcon actually sounds like the most reliable, heavy duty option, but the GF is pretty insistent it has to be 4WD for getting in and out of muddy paddocks.

so,the real Q you have to ask yourself is;

a) how serious is this thing with my GF?

b ) what do i want? a bogan V8 to rip around in whether your with her or not

c) do you take her advice, (and make a good impression), buy something that will be able to

drive home at the end of the event

d) dont take her advice, buy the bogan, turnup at the horsie thing. go to leave,cant-stuck in crap.

and look like a tool having to ask some wanky guy with a rangie to pull you thru/out.(even tho there was advice

-but didnt take it)

been there/done that (D),i hate looking like a tool-how about you?

My old man had an Exploder for about 7 months before he got rid of it. His 4l V6 used twice the fuel as my 5.7l V8, trans blew itself to bits trying to leave our cul-de-sac, steering and suspension were scarily sloppy and bit of interior trim used to part company with their fixings on a regular basis. Ended up taking it back to the dealer principal and demanded a refund on good faith - they replaced it with a Hilux. SUV had only done 80k when purchased, did less than 8k in the time he had it.

Biggest, thirstiest, ugliest POS I've ever driven in my life. Toyota FTW

So much hate for the Explorer

I have a 4th Gen 2006 4.0 V6 I have had no problems at all since i have had it.

Went for a play in the recent snow we have had down here, it smoked the Hilux fanboys with there jacked up suspension and dirt digger tyres trying to be big shots in the mountains around Dunedin. So seeing as this thread was in regards to a towing vehicle (and not reliability) i will stand by my previous statement ;)

Sorry man. not trying to bag anyone for their choice in vehicle. Am still astounded that such a high priced, supposedly well-specced SUV could be such a stinking pile of crap. Might have been that the old fella bought a lemon but have heard similar stories from other former owners supporting my experiences. Granted his was an '01 so very much a different vehicle to yours but I did always find it interesting that Ford discontinued the line after only two incarnations ( 'scuse the pun)

Old school Land Rover is always cool. Could be a real arse finding parts but hell, how much worse can it be than a Bimmer? ;)
