Jibs05 86 Report post Posted February 24, 2016 1st track day in my franken30! Was a blast! although a few problems came up which ill have to sort out. Most concerning is the temp gauge rising after 3-4 laps, Ill be looking at getting an alloy rad and an oil cooler before my next outing in march! Not so serious is the lack of traction out of corners, I foolishly stiffened my rear shocks before the track day and assumed the semi slicks would be enough... no no no.All about seat time now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L50apzukzpo (dont know how to embed)
Jibs05 86 Report post Posted February 28, 2016 What's the use of a build thread without pics? The very talented Jeffrey took some awesome photos at the track day while we were in the pits. Our spot for the dayOh a wild BMW 2L open race driver appears... shits getting seriousMarcus had to sort out the relationship between his tires and guards, no snu snu.I also had my fair share of issues on the day. 1st was a minor, my intake elbow had popped off. 2nd was my coolant temps getting very high.Jeff said he was trying to get an "in the moment incognito photo"... lol Simon was not impressed being disturbed during lunchSam, DanK and Marcus sorting the tire and guard relationship on the drivers sideHell yeahIs this a potato? Juhan showed up later in the day in his very nice AE86. He joined us on the track as wellAh yes valentine's day... a very romantic day for Aalia i'm sure. Partners were free hahaBig thanks to Simon, Aalia(great sandwiches btw), Marcus, Raewyn, Sam, DanK and Pange for banter, help fixing sh*t and chocking my car when I rolled back into the pits. It's the little things that make the day great! (also cars... let's not forget cars.) If you want to see more pictures from the day head over to JW Photography NZ and give him a like!

Jibs05 86 Report post Posted June 13, 2016 More updates on my excursions! visited hampton downs to do some skid pan work. Trying to handle the car in a tight, slow environment was very... tiring. I don't have power steering and still running the e30 4 turn lock to lock rack. Also i'm finding that i run out of lock very quickly so will need to do something about that. Despite all this I had an awesome time! Learning to drive this car *properly* is so fun. I need to attend more of these types of events and get as much seat time as possible! My car was dubbed the cone eater of the day. my front lip had suffered quite a beating haha Hence its absence Having great friends that always come to cheer me on, I had to take them all for some rides. What better way to show off my new front end setup! The more I drive this car, the more I need to change stuff. Some new bits and bobs incoming

Jibs05 86 Report post Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) its been a while The e30 has changed a lot since my last update. Ill try to keep everything in order.. We'll start with my 1st ever drift day on the track which was the 28th of May last year at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park . Tragic. With no real prior experience and not really having a clue about what I was doing, it wasn't until the last lap of the last session I linked the drift section. (Again, tragic) But sure enough I left the day with a chip on my shoulder thinking I was the absolute sh*t, next drift prodigy. I immediately signed up for the next drift day that I could afford, which was in July last year. Boy, the humble pie came swift, and still no power-steering. As I said. I thought I was doing great and going into the next drift day at hampton downs club circuit I was super excited to show off my skills. But then I drove with some people that had a clue. The skill gap was YUGE. I found my self pushing harder and harder to keep up with them, but I still didn't really know what I was doing. Rather than being in control of the car, I was just reactive after the initiation. Basically the car was driving me. And of course the e30 took a bit of a beating. I lie. It took a f*cking hiding. sh*t video for lols Yep, I drove it to Hampton Downs, did an entire drift day. As I was exiting the pit for the last session of the day... BOOM! Rear wheels lock up and I couldn't find any gears, the getrag 260 had enough. No trailer, no way of getting back. Thankfully Sam from Hellbm didn't break his car, so we put my e30 on his trailer. Again, my friends save my ass. Not much went on for a while. It was a rough time for me. But my wife graduated! YAY! Will update in a bit. Need food. Navin 180 Report post Posted June 29, 2017 Nice bro. I hear your car more than I see it lol. Need to catch up
Jibs05 86 Report post Posted June 29, 2017 So being a gearbox down I needed something that would stand up to a little bit of a hiding. So off I went. To Silverdale. Straight to Hellbm haha. Ray sorted me out with a zf 5 speed and I went to work to install it. We ran into a few hiccups along the way. Between the m50 and the gearbox sit a lightweight M20 flywheel and m20 6 puk clutch. So using the m20 release bearing resulted in multiple slave cylinder failures (because I didn't know what I was doing wrong). A simple measure up and sure enough the combo was too short, causing the slave to "over extend" and burst the slave. I then did a little research on the issue i was having and the answer was on the internet 1x BMW e21 323i release bearing 21 51 1 204 525 was ordered from Gavin @ euroItalian (great place to shop), and that was it. Driving once again. Seems simple and quick when i'm typing this up, but it took a while... I had other stuff on the go while this whole gearbox drama was happening... good stuff! Making sure i can fit big tires at the ride height i want the e30 to sit things were done to make it fit Oh and I moved house sometime between all of this So of course my mates had free reign in my garage (Blasphemy warning) I had a deadline given to me. There was a E30 meet being organised in Taupo and I was super keen to attend but I wanted to be a little different, so I started hunting for flares. I looked at the options from the states but they didn't really do it for me. I wanted something a little more "JDM" but my wife being the great person she is had bought me a birthday present... the flares I had on my eBay watch-list. And with the magic of the internet, THEY'RE ON! (255/40R17 all round, Photo credit : Sam Boucher Photography) I met some fantastic people and their cars at the meet. It was really heaps of fun! (some stolen photos from Facebook) More soon

Give me some feed back, im new to this so some constructive criticism is welcome Constructive criticism: Consider making a shot list and storyboard the things you want to talk about. Then film them, without the monologue. Record your voiceover using a vocal mic with pop filter, or a lavalier mic. Edit your audio in Audacity or similar. Then put it all together in iMovie or your preferred editing suite. If you really get in to voiceover, you can build a vocal booth out of cardboard and foam. Taking this approach tightens up your vlog, focusses on your messaging, avoids the wandering voice, and protects people from listening to your runny nose sniffs! Be relaxed in a comfortable space when you do your voiceovers, you'll not be distracted by operating the camera and moving around. Your audience will tune in to your message as your interest and passion will come through in your vocal, telling the story. I like the background music; consider using different tracks so it's not one repetitive loop through the whole clip. I loved your cutaways to action shots to illustrate and reinforce what you're talking about. keep it up, man! I'll now edit in some links. PS - I liked your intro graphics with the handprints. How do you do that? Edited July 21, 2017 by Olaf linky linky
LemonHunter 583 Report post Posted July 21, 2017 Some good advice by Olaf, remember you can still speak while recording as notes for your voiceover, but if you make any vocal mistakes you won't need to worry, can fix in post, overlay the HiQuality audio, keep anything spontaneous and funny for B reel or bloopers, I've thought about somthing similar with a curse cut at the end, every swear word spoken cut and spliced and played alphabetically, it'd crack me up anyway, and kept separate from main vlogs means you won't get those videos flagged and rendered NSFW.
