Seems okay.being a diesel and manual is a plus but also should be cheaper as its not the most preferred setup. Id personally offer about 7k maybe and see what they say but make sure u check it out thoroughly its most likely been traded in. Who knows what kind of life its had..

I would check whether this is a "common rail" diesel or the older pump type of injection. Chalk and cheese in terms of power and smoothness.

Common rail was introduced later on the 4-cyl than the 6es as Alfa had a protection on the 4s.

Otherwise looks a good car if you can get the price down about a grand.

I'd get it checked out, if it checks out ok, don't hesitate, but yes they are common rail as they have the M47D20 engine (100kw 280nm) - these engines also don't have the swirl flaps.

I've had my 320d for nearly three years now and have had no mechanical issues, bar maintenance. It's coming up 245kms now and no signs of fatigue. There was only 10 Motorsport 320d E46 manuals bought in by BMW. I've got mine remapped and it totally changed the car as well.

I'm surprised at how rough that interior looks for 170k, I would have expected it to have done 250k+.

The dealer is a pretty good guy. They specialise in dealer trade ins and higher mileage, but good condition euros. A friend of mine has bought three cars from them and raves about their service.

I bought one car from them and will never touch them again. Terrible service, and crap attitude. The main guy is an a**hole.

Be very wary of them IMO.

My 320D Touring is very nearly two years newer and has covered (at least) twice the recorded distance. The interior in my car appears better than that one.

Mechanically - look after it and it's hard to tell when it'll stop working. Biggest expense is likely to be replacing the turbo... The ones fitted to these cars aren't easily repairable (at least, not in NZ. Lots in Europe.) Easier and possibly cheaper to buy in a warranted refurbished one from a reputable source in Europe.

Other than that - maintenance. That's it. Usual story - use good oil, and change it more often than the service indicator advises you it needs doing - that comes up every 20000km or so.

Great cars. Price reflects it is coming from a dealer, and that they aren't common on NZ roads.

I suspect i may have been treated badly based on my age. Or he was on the rag. I dont know, he was a total wanker though.
