RHD Dodge Ram Trucks[new] available in September from dealer

Recommended Posts

See my rant about Harleys under ACC levies.

Really these are just stupid trucks for people with small appendages and 'poorly adapted' attitudes -

Like so?

Saw a Silverado Dually, crew cab long tray parked outside the BNZ near me today. Essentially the same vehcile

Look very cool, and they do have thier use in the USA, but i think they are unnecessary here. We have no need for passenger vehicle that big. Trucks that are that big and larger have professionally trained drivers, I am not looking forward to meeting one of these RAMs coming the other way on the open road taking up both sides of the road.

Haha.

These are big vehicles, perhaps a bit big for Kiwi roads, would hate to try and park one or drive one at a decent pace on a back road. I bet they tow well though.

They need to bring these in, German annihilating performance.

3 tonne poorly designed truck with a tray capacity of between 600 and 800 kg depending on version - compares very badly to a bog standard Ford ranger at around two tonnes with a similar tray capacity.

The advantage of the ram it can carry (seriously) overweight passengers - ( but so can the ford ranger if they can fit in) - maybe that is their 'use' in America?

Remember they have changed the class 1 licence rules so you can load this up with sh*t and a boat to 6,500kg and tailgate minis at 100kmh

Thier use:

No way a Ranger would haul 6500kg, especially with the same pace etc.

make a lot more sence than a camper van, and can be used for more than just one activity, and a bigger home.

Also Mobile offices and work stations.

Medium size diggers etc.

None of which you would tow with any current pickup, you would need an Atlas, Elf or Canter. do you call those oversize and obnoxious when they are the same thing, one just with 4 seats and an american badge on the front, i think not.

I highly doubt anyone here would by one to replace the Prado etc as a pasenger only vehicle.

Haha.

The really scary thing is, that by US standards, the RAM is not a BIG truck, just a slightly bigger than small sized one. They have some absolutely ridiculous sized pick-ups / utes over there.

I remember the office lady, Patty, that worked in Atlanta for the Sales Company I worked with, 4ft nothing blonde, drove a truck that would need a HT license in NZ, so funny when she got in / out of it. And I never, ever saw it towing anything.

Lol, they're so big it takes 1/2 hour for the impact to reach you.

As Jon Highlights, most never see any action, just like 90% plus of all 4WD's and other utes, they are just show ponies, just look at all the new utes on sales yards getting into "dress ups" with silly big patterned mud tyres.

All cheap & nasty Asian tyres on cheap Asian rims - 5 star safety rated ute on plastic skid tyres - awesome !

P.S towing capacity of a Ranger is the same or more than the Ram, you can just more more crap in the RAM i.e NOT in the tray or on the tow ball.

The next bit is just a silly argument of whether you want be guzzling 30l/100km with a V8 petrol RAM to tow a boat or 12l/100 with the Diesel Ranger.

Torque tows not HP

Yeah 90% in USA, but i am not in the USA, maybe you are???

If you want to look at show ponies, i suggest you look at your own driveway, and every other member here, would you call them all show ponies as well? or is it no longer a show poney for the sole reason being that it has depreciated 70%.........

Yeah exactly what i was referring to.

would be surprised if they shifted Petrol version here.

Does the Cummins diesel meet the EU4 emissions even??

I believe the 3 litre is restricted to the smallest version (1500) and its only recently been added as an option. The Cummins is for the 2500 & 3500 variants & is for something thats the equivalent to a Canter - so no, not something you would expect to be throwing around.

And yes, they are using particulate filters & SCR to meet the emissions requirements.
