There is no such thing as surface rust with an e30 these days, especially spots 1,2 and 3 they are very common spots to rust right through. If you can see it on the surface it's too late. If you plan on looking at it, check under the battery tray, and down the firewall under the tray. I'm guessing it has spent alot of it's life outside. Mark 178 Report post Posted July 3, 2015 Haven't personally seen the one in Chch, but I recently bought some headers off a bloke with a tidy 2.7 E30 who had been to look at it. He said it had been sitting for 7 years and the current owner had got it back on the road and is now selling it on. Paint is in poor condition, moreso than just the roof apparently. qube 3568 Report post Posted July 3, 2015 i dont think theres anyone who buys an e30 thinking they can just buy it and drive it. most if not all of them need some kind of work done one way or another and unless you're spending upwards of 10k for one that someone has already done the work on, i think the op will realise that both of these examples will need a bit (if not a lot) or work doing. will 169 Report post Posted July 3, 2015 The wagon might not be common as a body, but it is an 1800 auto- hardly desirable IMO. As pointed out above, the rust shown in some of the pics is very much more than surface rust. In my experience, the AA couldn't get p*ssed if they fell in a vat of beer... if you are really interested in buying the car, get it checked by a BMW dealer/specialist or one of the manky members on here who knows what to look for. If you could get it at a reasonable price, it could be worth a punt, but the seller thinks he is in possession of a rare desirable car so he no doubt has excessive price expectations. Probably be cheaper to buy a good e36 wagon. The 4door looks to be a better option. It is probably a South African import judging by the visible spec, so rust could be an issue. Leather looks like it might need some repairs, but cant be sure from the iffy pics. Also, it will need a total respray to make it pretty, and those cost $$$$, so, if you cant do a respray yourself, it might end up costing more than getting one in decent up-front condition. Will pay to get some estimates for a respray and get the car looked at by someone who knows e30's down in CCC. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Apex 693 Report post Posted July 3, 2015 X2 on the AA comment. They are dick heads and I have no idea how they have become the authority. Best bet is to take it to a panel beater and have them inspect it, better if they have a hoist. It would be with buying them a box of beer and getting a proper opinion.
