Estimates on E60 530i maintenance and insurance costs

Hello everyone,

If someone could please provide me with yearly estimate costs of owning an E60 530i 2007 model 50-70k, much appreciated. Thinking of getting one as a daily driver.

Apologies, I should have provided more details. The car is a 2007 E60 530i sport with 40,000kms, fresh import. Grade 4.0 rating. Yes, I would drive about 15,000/year. I tend to drive carefully and economically most of the time. But things like, how much does a usual service cost? Obviously, things are gonna break and need replacing, so if I budget for $2500 a year for servicing and maintenance?

Or should I invest in mechanical insurance, I have been quoted $1000 for two years?

From a dealer? See if you can get the mechanical insurance added in for free, generally easier than negotiating the price down.

$1000 is less than your average repair bill for these cars, just one issue is enough to make that worthwhile.

I would recommend getting a PPI done at a BMW specialist to ensure all is well, it may sound like a waste of time due to the low KM's, but the age factor is more important in some ways, this is probably better value than a warranty that often had a $350 per claim excess and strict servicing requirements to be followed (often more strict than the manufactures recommended).

Cheers for the advice. Will definitely try getting the PPI done then negotiate the price to include a mechanical warranty for a year at least. Currently, they are offering 3 months.

Nice car, but if you can get the LCI model, it had quite a few improvements, these came out in 2007, so the 2007's are a mixture of the two.

However currently it seems they are quite a bit more expensive.

Cheers for the advice. Might have to give it a miss then, would rather drive a cheap japa everyday and keep an E30 M325i for those sunny days and spend the money looking after her.

The issue on the E60 is the cost of the random failures. They are known to leak water into the electrics. This caused three failures on mine within two years (one a complete dead ship), costing around $1500 all up. Then there are broken wires (on the wagon).

Spoke to a BMW dealer mechanic at the weekend who stated that Jap import E60's are very good business for them and that many of the bills are very high...
