Over badging an X5... or is it M5 X5 5.0D or somthing

Recommended Posts

Yeah ahha, ridiculous.

Kinda sums up BMW these days, too many wally decisions like that.

Since when is an X5 an 'M' version anyway.

What happened is the 50d motorsport X5 was marketed as an M car (like the m5 or m3) Everone thought they were going to call it the X5M .. but it kind of got badged with that rubbish on the back.

Its what happens with the marketing department get involved in anything.... blanket confusion

I'm glad to see the M Performance sub-brand is well recognised!

The vehicle in the photo is an X5 M50d (series = X5, model = M50d) this is one of the M Performance sub-brand, triple turbo diesel engine, goes like poo off a shovel.

This is NOT to be confused with the BMW M Gmbh car (or "M" car as most refer to it..) which IS the X5 M Josh (tut! tut!) and has the stonking petrol V8 with twin hair-dryers and goes even more rapdily, also has the WBS start to the VIN code as it is built by the M division, but in the same factory as the other X5s...

And certainly neither of the above are to be confused with an X5 with M-Sport, which should be referred to by it's model code - X5 30d M-Sport for example, and is NOT an M car and nor is it an M-Performance car.

Which leads into the question, what is a genuine M-Sport car...

Clear as mud??

I understand your disbelief - but that is actually factory badging.

No, he is right, that is the badges from factory.

Mind you, if I could afford an M50d I would want everyone to know about it, but then that's just me!

I would get the badges, redo them slightly to the left a bit and fix the f**kup with the height of them. Then send the dealer a bill for my time.

Pissed ant built the jig for that badge.

Standard badging for the model but confusing nomenclature

X5 3d is a 3 litre turbo diesel

X5 4D is a 3 litre diesel - with two hairdriers ?

X5 M50D is a 3 litre diesel with 3 hairdryers ?

Or something like that and isn't there an X5 35d model which is a 3 litre with two hairdyers?

Too many executives and not enough engineers

i think the 40 d has superseded the 35d in all bmw variants, but two turbo version in both forms
