TermiPeteNZ 1316 Report post Posted April 28, 2016 (edited) Forgotten glory and long list of problems. Sad to see in this condition. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1076751657 Would be a good project for someone with plenty of time (not me). BlackAngel 60 Report post Posted April 28, 2016 (edited) Thats some list - would be a labour of love I think. OTOH, quite low kms if genuine. Corroded fusebox scares me - water leaking in? Edited April 28, 2016 by BlackAngel
Breaker 980 Report post Posted April 29, 2016 Worth it for the M-pars and parts only if you can get it for a reasonable price, sounds like its been idle for best part of 5 years. Damn shame being M sport spec
KwS 2421 Report post Posted April 29, 2016 That appears to be the one that was in CHCH that i was interested in. Bloody glad i dodged that bullet now, sounds like its worse than the original seller was letting on. Would be a great project if you had a donor car or something. Its got a lot of good bits (like the half leather/alcantara sport interior) so could also be worth getting just for parts.
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted April 29, 2016 When theres so many good E38s around in the 5-10k range, it just seems like a waste of time and money starting with a crappy one just to save a few k on the purchase price.
Breaker 980 Report post Posted April 29, 2016 ^^ Agree too many better examples about, and its still a 99 build year so not the last of them, apart from being sport equipped nothing special but lots of issues
TermiPeteNZ 1316 Report post Posted April 29, 2016 Still play with the idea of late run E39/E38 Motorsport vs my E60 545i Highline . . . character vs much more modern and powerful ....
Breaker 980 Report post Posted April 29, 2016 Yip agree Peter, I went E38 over the E61 550, every time I drive it, it reinforces the decision. Even if it's likely to be less reliable, who cares To ensure I cover the reliability bit, just bought two

BreakMyWindow 1874 Report post Posted May 1, 2016 Reckon it's got an issue with the front sunroof drain which caused the fuse box to corrode. From the ad description it doesn't sound too bad... Or is the owner economising on the truth?
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted May 1, 2016 The bones of a good car are there. I reckon if it could be got for cheap enough it'd be worth putting the effort and time(not by me.lol) into putting back on the road.

BlackAngel 60 Report post Posted May 2, 2016 Reckon it's got an issue with the front sunroof drain which caused the fuse box to corrode. One of the reasons I try to avoid buying cars with sunroofs
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted May 2, 2016 Reckon it's got an issue with the front sunroof drain which caused the fuse box to corrode. From the ad description it doesn't sound too bad... Or is the owner economising on the truth? One of the reasons I try to avoid buying cars with sunroofs The sunroof drains block over time and the water will seep into the car. A easy fix with a bit of weed wacker nylon.
BlackAngel 60 Report post Posted May 4, 2016 Weedwhacker nylon - thats a great tip - thanks
Contrails 316 Report post Posted May 6, 2016 Reckon it's got an issue with the front sunroof drain which caused the fuse box to corrode. That sends alarm bells ringing. I think this car would have some hidden rust issues for sure.
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted May 13, 2016 Sold for $1236. Thats a steal. The wheels alone would be worth close to that. Hope it was bought by someone who's going to bring it back to it's former glory.
