It's pretty simple really. If you are dealing with a BMW authorised dealership, which I think you are then the amount of margin the dealer has to work with is not that great tbh. If the 10% discount were off a new vehicle then they have well and truly dropped their pants in terms of what they are making on the deal. If it is parts you are referring to then that is still a very sizeable chunk of any profit they would have made being given up. Whilst there is not 100% coverage of NZ with stock of runflats, I would imagine that were the case on less common sizes of non-run flats as well, particularly the big, low profile, high-performance tyres required for an M3. So an over-night supply from a central warehouse (as would be the case from BMW NZ as the parts warehouse carry the runflat sizes) would be likely case there as well. So who's taking all the money then? Parts from BMW NZ cost 100% more (or even more) than parts from a Dutch or German official dealer and many American warehouses. Shipping and storage can't account for that and I refuse to accept that BMW AG charge BMW NZ much more than they charge a small Dutch dealer for parts. Geoff I think that is more the realities of New Zealand. It's a risk of the type of cars we love to drive. I have had just as much trouble getting an 18" normal tire in Matamata as I did getting a run flat in Kaikoura. Though I was much happier to stay in Kaikoura than Matamata. I'm soon to be commuting over the Rimutakas when I return to NZ. I would much rather have a run flat to get me over the hill than have to change a tire somewhere on the Wairarapa side. Was Pelican one of those previously excellent specialist suppliers that have been bought up and merged? On another note, how big is that box for such a small part and a sticker? From my Autosure GOLD policy: AA Roadservice 24 hours full roadservice by New Zealand Automobile Association Inc. Cover includes: breakdown assistance, towing, flat battery, lost keys and lockout service, flat tyre change and out of fuel service. Full details in policy booklet. Pelican have always seemed to use excessively sized boxes, tis probably one of the reason their shipping costs are much higher than FCP etc, never use their international shipping anymore. danbullock 15 Report post Posted January 11, 2019 Well aphone call and a few emails to Pelican last Friday and they had the correct parts at my door by Monday morning. All fixed and no issues. The Wife has confidence in the car now (again) which was the hardest thing to over come. Not a tuff job really. Just don’t shear the rubber power steering mount like I did. Did the bleed procedure twice. Replaced all the o-rings on the quick connect hoses that I didn’t replace. I can recommend Seal Innovations in Penrose, good to deal with and have a large supply of o-rings and other seals. And just so we all know, 1.5ltrs of BMW coolant is only 1 cent dearer at the dealer, compared to the other local independent BMW Parts suppler. Plus, it appears the Penrite G48 coolant is approved coolant however it’s green. And just on those “quick connect” hoses, don’t try and twist them off, if you didn’t know like me, they have locating slots and ridges and only go straight on on and off. Now after picking up all the parts and running around in my e30, the power steering rack in that decided to sh*t the bed so It looks like I’m doing a new quick rack for that sigh.. it never ends ... 1 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
