lord_jagganath 421 Report post Posted March 20, 2020 (edited) https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=2563723510 A lot of car for not very much money IMO. Tested one a few years ago in North Shore and felt nice, but the gearbox felt like it had better days, as it was a Hotel Taxi. Eagle 1662 Report post Posted March 20, 2020 Yeah i think a 4WD V6 Diesel VW would be harder burden to live with than a crack addition.
gjm 3258 Report post Posted March 20, 2020 I'd give it a try! ? ? I drove a VW Transporter with a similar engine and 4wd for a while. Great van. The Phaeton engine and driveline probably isn't all that different to the Amarok or Toureg. Just a lot more comfortable.
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted March 20, 2020 You'd need to be an expert in VWs to own something like this and get discounted parts.

The 3.0TDI is a very standard and basic VW engine. I had the V10TDI Twin Turbo 5.0 version in Ireland. It required specific VW Master Technician to work on from a servicing POV.. officially anyhow. Mine was remapped to 350BHP, 650ft/lbs (1000NM?) torque. Great, great car, but very heavy (on fuel and in weight, 2400kg!!). I'd have that one or the W12 Petrol version in my future noah's ark garage.
