Nah, they are very different.

There are many tests online comparing the units and the avin and the dynavin are the only two without any lag

Lag will have nothing to do with the hardware, that will be software, maybe they have differnt launchers but they all run on Android software. Look at all the models they all look the same, there's no way each of these companies will be getting a custom design headunit done. There are like 5 companies doing the same units. I guess lag is subjective, my xtrons unit is as snappy as my iPhone and works great, a friend has an avin and it feels exacly the same. I would be happy with either brand. Like I said, I think it will come to price point, return policy, customer service and brand loyalty. And of course people tend to be defensive of their purchase. You'll be able to find many people saying one is better than the other for all the brands. One guy might have bought an Avin and it was faulty, so suddenly Avin is crap and vise versa. Xtrons is the one I just happend to buy, but would be happy with a Avin too.

Have looked into them briefly in the past but would have to do a little more research! They seem great 👍🏽

Oh yeah? Would be keen on some owners perspective & history.

Would you recommend just buying from their site directly? I’m just a little nervous on the self-installation process that’s all as I’m very new to the whole DIY thing. I’m sure a simple video tutorial will help me get through it 🙏🏽

Yeah I bought direct when I got it, no issues at all, a lack of instructions but overall pretty straight forward and there is a few you tube vids you can look at prior for guidance

Okay so earlier this week I went & saw Ray @HELLBM up on the coast to pick up a boot-lid lock mechanism. Was the first time I’d ever been there & got to see some of his awesome cars (he was working on his infamous “M140i”) Wish I took photos, only got a sneaky one of his e39.

We got the mechanism off a detached boot-lid and I got to pulling apart & re assembling everything. Rookie mistake after everything was re-assembled I realised I had forgotten to re-connect the plug into the actual mechanism 😅

Anyway everything’s all sorted now however will need to clear the code. Also still occasionally being thrown the “Trans. Failsafe Prog” code and Ray says it’s due to my battery having low voltage. Still awaiting my outer right rear CV boot to arrive so will address the battery at the same time. (Hopefully this will fix my seat memory function/steering tilt & spastic left side mirror)

Also picked up new instrument cluster bulbs from continental to address the dimming. Installing those this afternoon.

My leather kit arrived finally & put in some elbow grease to give my interior a bit of a refresh!

Cleaned & Conditioned. Hopefully the shine fades once the conditioner seeps into the leather a little but so far loving the product!

Okay so slight problem, due to being unable to adjust my steering wheel I can’t physically remove the instrument cluster to change the bulbs…

No lever like the other Bimmers of that era to adjust the wheel at all?

Not that I can see, just the electronic stalk 🥺

Different car but on the E46 the lever is under the steering wheel. Anything to the left of the steering wheel or under that looks like a manual lever? Surely someone here can chip in 😅

Yeah on my e92 it was a similar thing. Just a little lever you sort of unclip, adjust then clip it back up.

Haven’t been able to spot anything of that sort in my E53 😅
