gjm 3258 Report post Posted September 24, 2021 These looked interesting. https://www.repco.co.nz/en/tools-equipment/garage-tools-equipment/axle-stands-ramps/mechpro-blue-car-ramps-pair-1000kg-mpbpcr/p/A6125873 OK - they're not going to get the car far off the ground, but should be enough for most oil changes, for example. The design looks nicer to use than the traditional metal ladders.
aja540i 1906 Report post Posted September 24, 2021 Maximum tyre width 245mm, so no good for the M5 then....
Mop 9 Report post Posted September 24, 2021 I got a pair last time they were on sale. Fairly short in length, getting my 530i e61 on them requires a couple of bits of plywood in front or the bumper hits them They won’t rust I guess but I don’t think they’ll last that long to be honest.
zero 1162 Report post Posted September 24, 2021 I have a pair of massive ramps that were used as truck ramps. Really heavy, but really high and wide too. My advice is get the biggest ramps you can find. No one ever wished they got lower ramps.

Looking at the pic they don't appear to have the high sides metal ramps have. Could put two together... Unless you've got bigger than a 490 on the M5?

My advice is get the biggest ramps you can find. No one ever wished they got lower ramps. The problem I find, as mentioned above, is too many ramps are short and steep, meaning you drag the bumper on them going up and down. There are very few cars I can drive up my ramps without scraping.
zero 1162 Report post Posted September 25, 2021 Just measured mine and they are 320mm high by 380mm wide
Young Thrash Driver 1020 Report post Posted September 25, 2021 I have a couple of railway sleeepers and I have angled the ends with a chainsaw. Didn't cost anything so not worried about how unsexy they are. I was aware most ramps are too steep so I just cut them on a very shallow angle.
wrs 120 Report post Posted September 25, 2021 I made mine using a scaf-plank and some 200x50 H1.2. They're 1.6m long, 250mm wide and 260mm high. Even at that length they still just rub on the air splitter.
