Really? From the photo you have posted you can see what looks to me like the end of the chassis rail bent through 45 degrees and crushed. That doesn't look too easy to replace correctly. The link to the parts catalogue is helpful, but you really need the full repair manual that shows exactly how things are to be removed and replaced. Was the accident not recorded, I would have thought it would have been with that amount of damage? Isn't it funny how many people manage to hit things smack bang in the middle of the car... but can't seem to steer around it, even with ABS??

Steer where you want to go, don't stare at the things you were trying to avoid ? Humans eh.

This is my point, it failed at this particular place for worn shoes, but if i do the conversion and take it for a wof elsewhere they would never know it wasnt discs from factory. When looking up the vin in several different systems it shows the car as having discs. The guy at supercheap auto insisted to my partner that the car had discs and that she didnt actually want the brake shoes she asked for. I understand the braking system is very important to get right, i've taken calipers on and off before and bled brake lines etc, but if i do end up doing the swap i will have my work checked over properly.

I've seen better on my Turbo Ford Sierra. The turbo was so hot I could see the turbine wheel spinning inside the housing. I wish I had a good camera back then (1986) I did the conversion myself on a brand new Sierra Ghia Wagon

There's no way to prove it originally had drums. Swap the rear arms over with the complete assemblies, bolts up, same brake lines etc Have done my 316 like this and the brake bias is still okay

The first fault happened 9km after purchase. The ECU was completely clean of faults before the purchase km's and there were two or three faults happening. They all happened on the 600km trip home. Bit of a freak thing to have all of them suddenly happen at once just after purchase.. I've calmly asked for my money back multiple times, they refused. From then, the process of repair took three weeks. I was nothing but co-operative and professional to them. All that I have done is sit back, take notes and accept everything they say. I've then passed it all onto my lawyer. I took the car home and my Lawyer sent his letter on the first day that the car could have possibly been fixed. That day was last Tuesday. They lied to me about changing the repair to a significantly cheaper one once they had to pay for it, they tried to whisk the car away to auckland, and the service manager lied over the phone to me on multiple occasions. I had evidence to the contrary of what he was telling me in my hand in one of the calls. I never accused him of lying even then. Even after hearing all of this, the Director used his first email contact with me to accuse me of being extremely uncooperative, with not being happy with the repair and therefore holding the process up substantially. He stood by his lying staff and, in the most professional language, used his email to blame the fiasco on me and deny any responsibility to the laws on the front page of his sales agreement! In light of the above, I think it's actually quite appropriate to question their pre-sale practises. You'll see how I worded it when I post it all at the end. It's in no way worded to provoke a reaction. I'm the first to admit my faults but I actually can't think of a way that I could have done this better. Edits are for readability.

No, that’s not how it works at all. Dealers are on the hook for repairs and cannot have the owner use the warranty, even if they offer to pay the excess.

It's probably uneconomic to repair. Have any professionals looked at it for you ? What are your mechanical skills like ? Ooops....just looked a photos. That's a write off. I would bail out of that now and cut your loses

Finally got some decent weather and managed to co-incide it with some free time, and managed to be fairly productive with it as well. Took the tow bar and wiring off of the F31 as that is now being replaced with a different car and model. Also cleared out all the accumulated junk and bits off stuff that seem to accumulate in daily drivers. Brushed the brake dust off the wheels to make it look half clean when it goes back. Since the yellow ball made an appearance in the sky I took the covers off the convertible and took it out around the block to drive the cobwebs out. (Oh, if only it were really that simple!! Full story would be... Put the garage door up, which pushed two tyres and a wheel off the stack by the door causing them to bounce off the convertible and around the garage. Luckily the cover saved any damage to the paint. Looked in about four cupboards and three drawers to find the keys for the convertible, tried to start it - not quite enough juice in the battery, found keys to wife's car, moved that, then pushed the vert back so I could boost it off the race car battery - finally got it started. Drove it around the block a couple of times to get things up to temp, tyres really squeaky - need more air. Pumped up all four tyres by foot, put it back in the garage. Brushed some of the dust and bits and pieces off the outside, put the cover back on.) Total miles travelled this year, since last WoF, now up to 92miles - woop, might make triple digits before it goes for next WoF! On Sunday took the E46 wagon for a drive as it hadn't been started for a while, it's sitting waiting for me to give it a real good clean and tidy up before we sell it. Also managed to find a bit of time to fluff around on the racecar, got the bushes pressed out of the new rear subframe and cleaned up some of the bodywork ready for painting, wrote a few more things on the list of jobs that need doing. Treated a little bit of surfacre rust on the subframe and around the lip of the boot where it was starting to bubble. Painted a few more parts for the latest model kit M3 and stuck a couple together, so much more detail on this one than the first one it's testing my eyesight that's for sure. Overall quite pleased, and don't feel like crap today which has happened the last couple of times I have tried to do anything, so might chance my arm at a few more jobs during this week.
