agreed there's nothing more stressful than driving over a long weekend when there is basically zero margins on speeding, you spend way too much time checking the dash to avoid accidental creep especially on downhill runs rather than concentrating on the road. The people that die on those weekends were never going to be saved by that stupid temp limit either.

Engagement point was just off the floor, clutch disc was starting to glaze at 10,000km from having to ride it to avoid stalling. I believe the taller E21 323i etc release bearing (15mm taller than std M20 one iirc) is the correct option to use to for correct pedal position. PO cut costs out\or was mislead and put a M20 setup in a E39 528i which is wrong on many levels, i just wanted the gearbox etc anyway. I sold the whole setup there was no way i was using a M20 clutch with M54 in a E39.

Bleh, E36s are old cars that need alot of TLC.

I dont mean to high jack the thread but what short engagement problems did you have? Too high or too low? Do you remember what size release bearing you went with? To the OP, the cross member will also be different for the ZF if you decide to go that route.

Useful warning for what, knowing you're speeding? sh*t, in the 12 years I've been driving I'm sitting on two speeding tickets. One when I was a teenager doing stupid things in his turbo DC2R, and the other from driving when tired and angry, through a speed camera I knew was there. I'm no advocate for the speed kills crap, but dont pretend there is any reason other than bad driving (speeding) to use a radar detector.

That’s a rather simplistic view. With very long range, and great selectivity, you can pick up the instant-on or mobile radar operating in the vicinity, eg - reflections from other vehicles 5-6 kms down the road, regardless of the unit’s direction of travel. That provides useful warning, and is the reason I’m still using mine. I’m usually moving towards them, which is what counts.

Getrag 220 will take M52 abuse all day long. Pair it with an aftermarket billet flywheel and stage 1 clutch. That will get you broke enough.

Under your profile there's an 'Album' tab which allows you to add images you can then link to in posts or messages. It's a bit obscure, but now you know you'll be good-to-go.
