E28 Low Rider

Recommended Posts

So this turned up last night. Rolling E28 525i manual chassis. Still registered but no engine or running gear. So basically a blank canvas.

Idea is to build a low and low budget rider for beach hop next year.

Things I'll need to start looking at,

- E34 540, complete car. Preferably decent engine and running gear, chassis can be in crap condition as I'll Land up scrapping it. The cheaper the better

- Either full adjustables or possibly air bags for as low as possible.

- 17" BBS mesh or similar.

- E28 lower front bumper

But for now I'll start letting the 'paint' job set in after stripping the car down this up coming week

Keen for progress. I was looking at picking this up myself, but got beaten to it before I could sort things. Let me know if you are getting rid of any parts :P

Haha yea this one actually is the other halfs idea, and she wants it for beach hop. But I only have 3 active projects now and they are progressing at a stable rate haha

Cheers Brent, I don't think the E39 would be the best for this as I'll be needing the E34 brake booster system too. I suppose I could buy this seperately if your parts car is at a good purchase price Is the M60 cable throttle and in good running nik?

Yea, the brakes on this are shocking tbh. Car hasn't got s brake pedal, so I'll probably grab one of Brent and then also swap everything I can from a donor when I get one.

Current brake setup is 2 wooden blocks and a rock.

not bad, might have to try that as an upgrade for an E30 some time

You'd need some serious stones to run that on a daily...

Got a chance in this scortcha to strip some of the exterior panels down making ready for a full b!tch of a job called 'paint stripping'

Noticed a few rust spots that need to be sorted, but might add to the look I'll be going for

post-2466-0-50637500-1448596263_thumb.jp

Will clean all these up and paint the brackets and grills matte black

post-2466-0-18903200-1448596293_thumb.jp

Then started on the birds nest, thinking I might pull this all out and replace as much as I can from the donor when I get it, hopefully Sunday or Monday.

So bought an E38 735 donor last night, will be stripping the running gear out and then probably keep the rolling chassis for 2 weeks for anyone who wants any parts, then will head to the scrappies.

Also started on the paint stripping, takes some time, but way better then sanding.. Will spend the rest of the week getting the exterior paint removed

Spent most of the week trying to get through 30+ years of paint and paint repair. So paint stripping is a slow slow process, but will get there by the time the car is ready for its engine conversion in 2 weeks (hopefully)

Oxidisation is coming along nicely, will let it sit for a few days and then give it a light sand and some treatment.

Paint stripper sounds like hard work, we did my mates one with a box of flap wheels on the grinder in an afternoon.

Flap Wheels? That's came out pretty well, mind you, I live in an area where noise is frowned upon. Might take a few hours on Friday to try this Flap Wheel business

Oh yea I tried some of those, started eating into the metal, but I did have to use some on the really thick layers, where the out body filler over 3 layers of paint and then sprayed 3 layers of paint ontop of that.

I'll be sanding the rust back almost completely on a very hot day, so I can paint on the used motor oil from the utea M62

so Francois, how's this coming along? We need an update. Beach Hop creeps ever closer. Is your project gaining inertia?

Oh I know, how about a theme tune? Inertia Creeps might do the trick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3mn7EC-skg

Anyway, keen to see the V8 swap.

regards

Haha yea I been pretty slack with the updates, but the car has been fully rusted now, just waiting for a hot day to come along so I can make the motor oil on.

The E38 has been stripped of all it's needed parts, the V8 will be coming out today and then a good tidy up and what not to get it ready to drop in next weekend.

At that point I should be able to see if I need any custome engine or tranny mounts.

I'll get some photos up soon
