4 pointsi love the thought process... where can i stay in stratford? wheres that pic of my hoist? should i sell it? view porn what's on at the flicks? yes i will sell it!

2 pointsSounds like torque converter. If you've caught it early enough a service and new oil might save it but if it's already making that kind of noise it's probably on the way out. Ray recently did a tc repair for Amber-Leigh on a 540i for a very reasonable amount. I suggest a quick call to HellBM or one of the other forum sponsors for proper diagnosis and repair if required. EDIT: My 540's still for sale with no such problems

1 pointThought of asking Ray ? at the end of the day its just a bearing replacement and maybe a crank skim. I hate to say it but asking a dealer to do a engine rebuild is like asking a top law firm to do your private property sale conveyancing. Maybe find someone who does engine rebuilds who doesnt charge as much Who knows you could probably then afford to do all sorts of other preventative matainence while the bottom end is out too, EG vanos guides etc.

1 pointWhen i made my M50 intake manifold i spent some time studying the stock one which wasn't that bad i made former's and redesigned the runners and built trumpets into them and had a Laser cut flange made then created the manifold from sheet steel cheap and easy to do. The M50 ports need some work on the high radius but are generally pretty good but the stock cams are the killer at 225 deg advertised duration and so performance killer im lucky enough to have a mate in Finland ex BMW DTM mechanic so running N/A i got some 100% bmw [email protected]'' in and [email protected] ex cams, you have no idea what they do for the M50 they pull from 2000rpm and wont give up at 8800 now combine that with the intake youll be very happy camper. You shouldnt run the motor with Hyd lifters past 8500 with reprofile on the cam to Mech itll run you to 9500, always wanted to build a 10k rpm M50B20 for the open 2ltr class pretty sure i could pull 270hp out of one,but thats all here say

1 pointWell I'll be buggered. I shouldn't be surprised that some sunlight deprived german came up with an idea like that, but I am still impressed! Could be looking at doing that in the medium term, will be coming straight to you if it happens

1 pointDoes it sound similar to this: That was my 540i Trans... Sadly it is not really a situation you want to wait on, mine only got worse, and then revs started dipping badly.. You have to weigh up the end result, do the preventative work now. I did mine through Ray, as Julian said.. the Torque Converter was then sent to TCRS or AAutomotive to be reconditioned. This, with the resulting transmission service sorted the problem perfectly, car was a blast to drive after and felt fantastic... No sounds, no problems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwSn3T-dU1Q

1 pointThere was a traffic jam, everyone was staring at me jumping on the wrench to undo the bolts, and some guy in a Red E36 Coupe (bimmersport member maybe??) rolled down the window and handed us an umbrella! bahahaha. God, never thought I would see a women do a man's work, let alone me. I think their brains may have been on holiday.....

1 point^^^^^^ That would have been a crack up to watch from nearby Tight wheel nuts - so you had more weetbix for breakfast huh Edit: Not as tight as the ones on a yank tank SUV on an AA callout on Saturday. Broke (split) my 1/2" drive Stahlwille socket on the bloody thing Had to recover it to the workshop to get the wheel off.

1 pointWhat a bloody embarrassment to the male fraternity Well done on the good samaretan thing. It is usually always the other way around (quite possibly with an ulterior motive though )

1 pointBeen drawing up an M62B44 V8 on CAD, so far got the heads mostly done, less intake ports, but the exhaust ports are all there with accuracy. Have yet to detail the block, get the mounting points etc. Big thanks to Ray for supplying these items for the job!

1 pointHa. The SchnitzerII club alright. They do seem perfectly suited though, glad to read they're not uncommon cause I think I want to swap the spare out for one. There's a sad looking OG wheel in the boot that just won't do. Oom: I wasn't sure what to expect fuel consumption wise. Im using less than I guessed I would be. Seems I can run to work from my place in CBD to Albany on around $60-$70 per week which is more than reasonable. All mway driving though. I stopped watching the consumption needle because they way ive been driving it in this honeymoon phase os a little lead-footish. I haven't owned a V8 car for a while. The last was in the early 90's. An HK GTS monaro someone had dropped a 327 chev into. Didn't last long though, total cop magnet being rusty and matt black PA10. That seemed thirsty as hell with a cam and big holley carb. Thanks for the replies guys. Hope to see you all around and likely ask a few noobish questions. Ta.

1 pointAlternatively if you just want a nice running engine then you may be best buying a second hand one then selling your one to someone who does want to do a high horse power rebuild. I imagine that looks like what your are thinking of.

1 pointI've got a getrag 250 in pieces that would argue that. The synchros aren't capable of fast shifts. The zf boxes handle alot more abuse. Hence why people will still pay twice as much for a zf than a getrag If you want an expert opinion talk to Kayne Barrie. I'd assume hes rebuilt more bmw gearboxes than anyone else in the country.
