Why? Majority of the stuff in there are like 10 years old already ... DIS and how to set one up is now so well known you don't need to visit that website. Heck I can set one up blind folded and on a fast computer in about 10 minutes or less. What do you want to know, I am 200% certain I can answer everything you need to know - and much much more accurately than any other "how-to" write up there is out there (including the two I wrote - which in hindsight, I've now discovered errors with). I've read every single one of them and know them back to front and I can tell you there's not one out there that's 100% accurate in terms of setting one up correctly (including the one wrote by a m3cutters member - perhaps the best one available but still has various errors in its methodology in setting one up correctly). You can even now create a version with v44 coding with v57 diagnostics, has all the TIS files and have Rolls Royces and Mini all activated - I've made one myself and tested it thoroughly and it works perfect. I've even figured out how to install Ken Fister's easydis Natively on a T30 IBM and run a separate laptop with an emulated diagnostic head (which you don't need on Fisters translators) so you don't need to buy a China clone ... Or if you want ... the latest ISTA Rheingold is pretty well sussed now and works almost perfectly and can be installed on just about any duo-core machine with about 3GB ram. The options are endless. And you can't brick your DME with DIS, it's a diagnostic tool ... You can however with WINKFP, but there are factory recovery tools in toolsets that can recover an incorrect flash ... or worse case scenario there are members on this board now with EPROM flashers that can recover it and reset flash counters now.

Have had a good look at the car now - though not managed to scan it - and have a list of maintenance things to get done... Some more urgent than others: Power steering box appears to have a leak - will clean up and check... If it does it'll probably need doing before warrant time. Gasket set's about $65 online, not sure how hard it is to do yet. Diff is leaking - looks a slow leak so might put this on hold until I can afford to fit LSD - gasket set's around $100. Trans mounts have perished - $25 for some new ones... Already ordered, doesn't look to big a job to replace but a pain without a hoist. Rear tyre has a crack in the sidewall - they're cheap and too small so going to replace anyway. Budget may mean I have to go midrange for now but will get the best I can afford (and the right size) Car is running rich - will clean up the MAFs and do a smoke test (there's definitely a vac leak or two) and check the AFR at the next dyno day before worrying too much. It's not a daily so I won't lose any sleep burning a bit of fossil fuel. Did ask Gavin at Euro Italian about a couple of new MAFs.... $1450 each! Cripes - I can buy a lot of $45 knock offs for that! Good news is suspension all seems good and compression tests were good on all 12 cylinders. I've picked up some ATF and fresh oil so will do some changes when the new oil and air filters turn up. Also got an online valuation from Redbook.co.nz - pretty happy that on the present mileage in good condition the car's valued at $18.5K.... So it was a bit of a steal.

Deal done. Car now in my hands and looking forward to connecting up with likeminds here. The car has been owned by one person for 95% of its life so nice to find a relatively low mileage car that hasn't been thrashed. Needs a top to toe clean though.......

Update Started with the roof repair as it had a aftermarket sunroof in it which slightly damaged the roof when it was removed. After replacing the cut roof beam and cutting down the sunroof cassette to reglue to the sunroom surround its now got its strength back. Next the cage. Ran into a snag where you are supposed to use a special MIG wire for T45 steel. Most NZ fabricators don't bother and use the std stuff and even that passes the weld test machine they use for FIA cert, but wanted it done right so had to import some. Also ordered Vanos spares ready for that rebuild. Note the sunroof hole lip which was cut off the old aftermarket cassette and then glued back in place, ready for attaching the old sunroof panel note the careful placement of the dashbar to allow for the ventilation to still work. Also note how tight the cage is to the A pillar.

I have XYZ Coilovers in mine and I couldn't be happier. I didn't like them at first, handled worse than a conventional setup, and you will see on here more than a few times i bagged them. but now i have set it all up correctly, the car handles bloody well, and its heavier again than your 525i. I would say it would handle as well if not better than most lowered E30 setups, and that is saying something. No matter what brand you end up running, you will need to customise the front hubs, there are just simply no bolt in E34 setups on the market at any price point. My coil overs were $1500 or so for the set of 4, and another grand or so to modify hubs, have them crack tested etc etc which all needs to be done before a cert is issued. So about $2500 all up. In any other situation, i wouldn't bother however. Yes it handles bloody well (those at the Taupo Trackday will vouch). But its just not $2500 worth of value really. But i had no choice. I HAD to run stiffer front springs for my car to pass cert, and coil overs were the best way to achieve that. Don't think so. Set and forget, once you have dialled in exactly what you want. I have spent so much time playing with mine and it is setup much better than any spring/shock combo would do Yep.
