The driver put a long post on Bimmerpost explaining what happened... http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1075458 Either way, he didn't react brilliantly when the back end start to squirm!

I've used http://www.shipito.com/ in the past. Allows you to consolidate packages etc. Always been good for me.

Its taken a while and I have been hopeless at keeping this updated but here are some pictures as it sits now. it has been a massive 3D jigsaw puzzle that didn't have all the pieces. We have had the engine running over the holidays and I was getting the gearbox working. It has the most retarded over complicated linkage in the world! Fortunately there are still a lot of places in the states that sell most of the parts for these. The only issues we have had are finding RHD specific parts such as gear linkages. All of the patch panels were purchased from the UK which were great. The colour might not be everyone's cup of tea but its an original BMW colour. The door and dashboard are only fitted as a mock up to see how the whole thing goes together. The dog is in there for a size comparison, and its a very small dog! There isn't too much left to do but as with all projects little things creep up out of no where. I hope you enjoy, Cheers, Chris

Dropped m52 block off at engine shop to get a hone. Spent three days cleaning the sh*t off the m54 Pistons, dropped them off to get dipped and clearances checked. If all goes to plan should have it back in a week ready to assemble with new cams and all the grunty m5x gear I already have. I also drank a lot of beers.

You're right! Pleasantly surprised. Lot's of good people around here. Thanks mate, a kind offer. I'm in no great rush, but I'll certainly bare it in mind. Cheers guys. I expected the two to be quite comparable. But looking ahead - the only way I can see to replace an M3, is with an M3 - indoctrination I say. Although an S50 in an E30 would be bloody awesome. It would be a tricky pick... Overall appearance: E46 Ease of maintenance: E36 Performance: E46 Cost value factor: E36 Fun factor: E46 = E36?

MSS50 EWS delete confirmed working ... But flashing only via OBD at the moment as bench flashing this DME have been a bit perplexing for the moment.

Great car, love the colour. Cars like this (and I put the Mini, Fiat 500 in the same category) can be whatever colour you like, so long as they make people smile

Bottom one looks rad, was going to do the same. Only because I figured if I crashed or got hit in to, I could just replace the panel and throw some random patches onto it.

I did play around with that but it looked too much like a magic eye puzzle.. and yes i thought about it but couldnt be bothered with the hassle of swapping everything over ie dash and wiring loom for guages.

Great that Amazon helped you out. I have used Mainfreight within NZ and kiwishipping (Mainfreight) from the US. They have been really helpful and reliable for me on a number of occasions, usually on quite large items like engines and machinery parts. My only bad repeated experience is with Peter Baker Transport (PBT) - they have damaged more than half off all the items they have ever touched for me. When I told someone else about my experience with PBT they told me it stands for Probably Broken Transport, or Peter Breaker Transport.

Youshop is sh*t. Overpriced, Slow, doesn't consolidate items. E.g. The mrs ordered some small items in the states from Amazon. 3 items sent and 1 was on back order and got sent on its own. A $5 nail polish. Because they don't consolidate they wanted $15 to send a tiny extremely light box with a nail polish in it. In the end it cost more in shipping due to Youshops extreme prices than the items cost total. And it took 2 weeks to get them here. They got to keep the nail polish.

I had this same issue a few weeks ago. I followed all the instructions and nothing worked for me. Then found this. Theres one extra step. Once you have the led flashing point the key towards the reciever/mirror and push one of the buttons again and you should be good to go. Hope this helps

Seems like an awful lot of effort for not going to a manual!

To remove something means you understand 100% the effects it will have downstream. In this case, you are assuming you know exactly what grade of petrol you are running at any given time. Including full trust that the petrol stations tanks dont have a large water table effecting pump octane. That your environmentals such as air temp and air density are the same at all times, that any of these factors are not slowly over heating various pistons slowly causing them to crack down the sides of the piston to the first compression ring lowering compression in the effected cylinder. Or just overheating the tops of the stock cast pistons. Detonation doesn't usually happen in a big bang like in those youtube videos of wrongly tuned cars... it happens over time without you knowing. Removing knock control removes the engines last reactive line of defense to any or all of these issues. To do so is the reverse of what experienced aftermarket tuners do. They in fact add knock control to an engine if the aftermarket ECU isn't running it to give them a safety barrier. If the sole reason is to trick / remove the ECU function to circumvent the stock safety measures because it is interfering then I say that is highly foolish. A better approach would be to identify the knock control table and vector too it and adjust that on a dyno so you can see the results. I would also be doing it with full data logging.
