    Hi all, just joined and thought I'd make a brief intro. Have always loved BMWs and a real soft spot for the e28 model. Over the years, have really grown on the e24's and in more recent years e30 M3s, but to be fair, nearly the whole range from BMW! ? I've had my 87 535i for nearly 7 years, drive it frequently - some weeks, all week! Have done trips all over the South Island, a few times and a fair bit of the lower north island - for a 30 year old car, it really does hum, rarely has it let me down! Anyways, keen to see your cars out and about, mine is - frequently I'll be parking in and around the Wgtn CBD near Midland park - if you see me, always keen to meet other BM owners - say g'day (I will), maybe grab a coffee sometime.     Spent a large amount of the weekend cleaning and putting on the winter coat of wax. Went with chrisfix's 'superclean' method, dishwashing liquid foam cannon to remove old wax and any accumulated oils etc, then clay bar, spot fix the clearcoat (I skipped this bit though), and apply the wax. I'm happy with how it turned out, having trouble getting rid of the headlight condensation on the RHS though.

    Been lurking for a while, but since I've just posted my first comment I thought I'd better do the 'intro' thing as well. I've had this UK import Z4 since 2013 and have had a lot of fun with it, along with a few jobs that needed doing (soft top motor sitting in a pool of water - most common fault on these cars). I've done all of the jobs myself so far including the oil changes, new discs/pads, replacement roof motor (can almost take roof off blindfolded now...), brake fluid, ABS pump replacement and so on. Also using NCS and Carly to do coding. It's been a great learning experience, and fun to drive (that's the point after all, isn't it?) And since I've been around long enough to know these threads are useless without pics...

    Take it somewhere decent. A bad wheel alignment place can make your wheel alignment worse than before (don't ask me how I know).

    Quick update. Got it back yesterday after the dealer had it for the week. Was told that they replaced the catalytic converter(s?) this time. They said the engine light disappeared straight away after install. They reckon it is a process of elimination and if it comes back (lets hope it doesn't) then cause maybe plugs. Well we will see haha. So they have done 02 Sensors and Cats - I'm saying plural but I'm not that confident Next step is to change the oil, coolant and belts maybe, just so I know they have been done (and I have them handy so why not use them right). I also suspect possible oil leaks so will have that looked at and go from there. Happy happy joy joy...

    Repco stocks it up here and can get it very easily. If they get confused get them to type in rbf0005 into the system or get them to ring the Grey Lynn store for a part number.

    Re the seats, I guess you're referring to the pre facelift 126 and 124 models? They were a relic from the '70s and enough to put me off buying one. The 126 was facelifted in '86 and the 124 in '89 and both had revised seat designs near identical to the E32/34. I do agree that an Msport E34 with all black interior is hard to beat. Even the 211 e55/e63 seats look like a lounge suit compared to M5, but I think MB and its buyers have different expectations to those of an M5. I've owned three W140s and parted out two. Wiring issues in early 90s is well documented. They're built like brick sh*t houses. More solid than any Ither car I've owned or worked on.

    Personally the first thing I do before a track day is to run some decent brake fluid. Normally run the penrite racing fluid and it's great. Consistent pedal feel throughout the day at the track. Normally run hawk hp plus pads and have never experienced fade with them but then again that was on a much lighter car. Yet to test the 135i. I have run ebc reds at puke a number of years ago and had a similar experience as you after about 4 hard laps, pretty damn scary having next to no brakes after the long back straight that's for sure!
