As some of you will know my long time project had a bit off an off a year (ish) ago. Immediate action was to buy teh writ off back from insurance.. best $200 ever spent.. After some thought I bought another E34 540 (NZ new '93 M-Sport, but auto) and have been swapping all the bits over, including swapping teh dove grey interior for my black one carpets and dash included. So I now have pretty much what I started with, but with M=Sport body. After lots of sweat, swearing and beers I finally had a start on the weekend.... Exhaust, wheels and WOF and I'm back in it.. Will add some pics once its out of the shed. First_start.mp4

seems odd to take the engine out of what looks like a nice car? Could be it suffers from really nasty cracking/spot weld failure in the rear floor like a lot of these do. Would definitely want to thoroughly check that. E46 M3 with a worked v12 would be tits though!

Hey Steve - this would imply that yours is a Jap import with a toll mirror. Look up your rego on www.carjam.co.nz which will give you your VIN - enter the last 7 characters into www.bimmer.work/ and this will give you your detailed spec ....

BNT are really good to deal with. Do tell us which Fuchs ATF you got. This will help others in future seeking the same solution, via the Search bicycle. Re big beard; is this what you tell your wife? "no darling, I can't go back to being clean-shaven, I'll lose my parts discounts!"

loving this. exactly the same as the one I missed out on last year... it's like I'm haunted by the e61 M535D... whenever I don't have a contract! GLWS. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Hmmmm. It really is a beaut Dan and you've even put nicer wheels on it! I do want to get a classic but I'd need to commit $$$ to storage with @Barrynas it just couldn't sit outside :| (especially with red paint) ….

So, I just bought some oil Supercheep and Repco were about $220 for 20L of Penrite or Gulf Western but didn't have any in stock. So I went to BNT in lower hutt and tried there. They did the computer lookup of my car and transmission and recommended a Fuchs ATF one. 20L of that from Supercheap was about $400. But at BNT it cost < $100. BNT for the win! (although I go there quite often - and they give me a trade discount because the recognize me now - helps to have a big beard). Tim

Will check the part number and price tonight - I paid the full dealership price as I wanted it done then and there. ECS/FCP Euro were significantly cheaper from memory. Update: Part number B32306761571 - $271+GST.

http://yahoo.aleado.com/2084231117-catlist.html Go searching on there ... You can find genuine sets in Japan easy as with tires round $1000 ish (cheaper if your not too concerned with a few scuffs) And then probably about $400 ish in shipping / fees to get them here - Contact my mate Ewan from at [email protected] - they can bid on them / organise the shipping. Theres a set http://yahoo.aleado.com/lot?auctionID=w217078095

this is a ridiculously good deal at that price. hopefully the right buyer comes along and picks this up. As said above, manual conversion in a heartbeat and you got yourself a damn nice E34

Nice to see this again. If i had the parts id buy it and manual covert it in a heartbeat. If you want the washer warning gone just bridge the washer plug terminals with some wire, tape it up and tuck it away. Pointless warning anyway.

Howdy Steve and welcome to BimmerSport - good to see another E53 owner on here Looks very nice in black and with those rims. Yes the dark 'anthracite' hoodlining marks your vehicle as a Sports Package or 'SportPac' which usually means sports steering wheel, seats and suspension. Yours is also the facelift model judging by the nose and the date - so you'll have the better xDrive 4WD system and the more powerful N62 engine as well. @Tom Delahunty up here has a similar vehicle and might be good to compare notes. I've thoroughly enjoyed my 2001 (pre-facelift) E53 4.4i SportPac with 227KMs on it, but spent a fair bit of dosh on overdue/'bound to happen' maintenance -even with a mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI) plan. If you don't have one of these, look at getting one. Jono at MTF Mt Victoria here in Welly (ph 027 22 44 295) can arrange one for you - BMW Car Club members are eligible for a decent discount too. I've just downloaded a manual in PDF form - lots of other things to spend on This is my beasty here ...

Hi Stevo, welcome along! If you do a carjam on your rego number, get the last seven digits of the VIN, then enter them into an online BMW VIN checker such a BMWVIN.com. that'll give you all the option info for your X5. You can get the correct manual from your local BMW dealer (typically on order), and they usually seem to go around the $100-120 mark (depending on your model). Alternately look for a full set used (including the leather folder) from ebay in the USA, you'll probably find that'll run you about USD35 plus freight... the differences with the NZ manual (which is probably a European version, in English), are minimal. Hope that helps. Nice wagon, BTW!
