After many years away, I'm back in the bimmer fold picking up a 2014 F15 X5 M50d today. Some of you will possibly remember me from the many years I was an active member, mod and admin on this forum until career, wife, kids and a lack of a bimmer in the drive meant I stepped away. For those who don't remember my last BMW was a supercharged 1989 e30 325i tech-II 4-door. I'll rustle up some pics.. Since then I've had a handful of company cars and then an R36 Passat (4 sale!) before towing and family needs pushed me into an SUV and ultimately the M50d. Who else has one of these? How has your ownership been? I have some cosmetic mods plus an upgrade to OEM-look Android Auto planned for the M50d but that's all at this stage. It's good to be back....

A day of garage admin today, lots of tidying and sorting to clear some room to put the convertible to sleep for the winter and work on the race car. Even cleared out the most inaccessable cupboard and got a whole heap more stuff in there - even found two crates of home brew in there that I had forgotten about. And it’s still drinkable, score!

That why i just replace mine with the factory seat for the WOF. The base mount\sliders are specially designed for the vehicle by a reputable company and that all i care about.

Love to see the DIY solutions !! Great concept you put together there @Karter16 👍 I got my creation complete today, just need to buy some dowel in case I need to get more travel out of mine after the gooping starts.

I would suggest you have got a snowball in hell’s chance of people moving over to let you pass If they are holding you up. These are most likely the same people that can’t keep left on a two lane road, let alone maintain a speed near the limit. And as for multi lane motorways, absolutely no chance, sit in the middle lane at about 20km/h below the limit to be “safe”. The driving standards in NZ are getting worse by the day, no point worrying about speed limits when the majority of drivers don’t have the basic skills necessary for daily driving.

Great thread! Very impressive build! Sorry to resurface your bad memories but I just wanted to say I've had 3 similar experiences recently. One of my cars got hit on the rear drivers quarter a few months back and I booked it in for the panel beaters (3 month wait list... ) Finally got it in there, got the work done under insurance ($400 excess, about $2k worth of work?) and had it parked on the street all of 2 days - Friday to Sunday before some other ass hat hit me in EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE! I won't be getting it fixed again until I have a garage. After this experience I bought a dash cam and hard wired it into my 335i for security duties, sure enough, someone scraped the front drivers quarter a couple of weeks back... I have accumulated quite a bit of damage on this part of the car now (someone also opened like a van door over the top of the quarter/hood causing a massive scratch, clear coat is blistering - black car parked in the direct sun...) so it really needs to get into the panel beaters! I've been through a load of the videos and still not able to locate any solid evidence of when that scratch might have occurred. Again, reluctant to get this one fixed until I have a safe place to park because where I live is clearly a massive liability for these sorts of parked prangs and it seems that no one leaves notes anymore... 🤬
