Disclaimer - we own the grey car that is for sale on TradeMe. The Baur conversions were originally produced because BMW didn't have a convertible in their range. Coupe bodies were shipped from BMW manufacturing plants to the Baur Karosserie facility in either Germany or south Africa (depending original location of manufacture). There were slight differences in process - German cars were rust protected and suchlike before being shipped, were then modified and painted. SA cars were shipped in white, modified, then rust protected and similar. Baur are an extremely highly regarded organisation. Aside from work they have done - and do - with BMW (starting in the 1930s, and more recently on the 2002, E21, E30, E36, E46 conversions and others) they also did all the bodywork for the Porsche 959, conversions for Opel and Mercedes, and do prototype work for VAG and Ford. The Baur design for the E30 means the car uses coupe panels and parts (other than the roof). The convertibles BMW produced later use different body panels. The Baur retains the 3 seats in the rear (presumably for small people!) while the convertible has two seats. The Baur roof design means the structural strength of the coupe is retained, and offers several positions. Another benefit of the Baur is that the roof does not leak. My wife and I know this from experience - driving from wellington to Waikato we encountered a storm that meant we had to pull over - it was impossible to see the road. Not one drop of water got into the car. They're not to everyone's taste, but are extremely versatile and easy to look after.

Tomorrow I make the collection trip to Eurotech. 5 weeks, which may seem like ages but I was in no rush and Easter/Anzac was in there as well. Here are some of the progress images that they sent through a few weeks back. Insurance paid for a bunch of extras including genuine guard vents and kidney grills, I paid to have the rear bumper refurbished. Having driven the M5 nearly daily for almost 4 years to not having it for 5 weeks I wonder what that first angry stab is going to feel like.

Hi all, I am Auckland based, a bit new to bmw's but not new to cars in general having owned countless vw/audi's have owned 3 bmws so far :). Started with a great e28 535i (malachite metallic) then an e34 535 5 speed followed by a fairly broken e39 540i 6 speed with AC kit. Hi everyone I have recently upgraded to a new car so the time has come to sell my E36. I have absolutely adored this car for my five years of ownership and will be sad to see it go. See details below. This E36 has been loved, as evidenced by the extensive service history that comes with the car. The last four owners have been involved with the BMW Car Club of NZ. It has also featured in the BMW Car Club of NZ magazine. This E36 was imported to NZ in 2004 by Shelly BMW as part of its "BMW Approved Used Import" programme. I have all the documentation for this, including the original BMW 100-point checklist and "Certificate of Authenticity". It has genuine BMW M-Contour wheels from an E36 M3. It comes with all original keys (with working remote locking) and rear parking sensors. In my ownership, the major items I have attended to are: All four tyres replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 5, with plenty of tread remaining. New windscreen, windscreen rubbers and windscreen cowl. New brakes (rotors, pads and rebuilt calipers). New radiator. New battery. Regularly refreshed fluids and filters. The oil has been changed at least every 12 months. New spark plugs. Retrofitted Bluetooth to the original BMW head unit. There is plenty of other service history, which is fully documented and will come with the car. The car lives in a garage and is only run on BP 98. The car passed its latest warrant of fitness in April with a clean sheet. The personalised plate comes with the car. Nice one. I posted your first vid here a while back. Just spotted the Soarer in your vid. Awesome cars. I miss my MZ10 a lot. I looked them up in Japan recently, cried a little, then purchased another 130i instead.

Least desirable E30 to me. I guess there are some fans out there though. Way more cabs produced than baur convertibles. So they have the rarity thing going for them.
