FOR YOUR INTEREST, V8 E39 OVERVIEW.
-
Thats a nice Touring & reliable manual box.
-
MR E34 voted, good luck.

Hey Paul, latest TBMW mag just arrived and they have a good buyers guide/faults for the E39 V8 cars.Shall i scan & post later or do you want to look at buying the mag from your local bookstore? Total BMW July issue, also has a fantastic rundown on the E34,' Defining Moment', covers, 3.6 M5/3.8 M5/ 535i sport/540i/525i sport/ M5 Touring. (sorry for the change of thread, thought worth mentioning here)
-
Have you had a prepurchase done to check it out or anyone looked it over?
-
The V8 bay is tidy anyway, the only thing that happens is the paint peels off the cam covers etc, get everything recoated.
-
That rule still applies, this is about overseas residents, kiwis coming home etc, like i said in the earlier post, go to the section How do i apply to have my NON COMPLIANT vehicle .............
-
Yes, last time i looked under the bonnet Ian. Not unless you have done a swifty & replaced it!
-
For your interest, detailed M30 engine bay etc. MR E34. pm me David if you need any E34 info. or wider shot.(high mg's sorry) Engineering Art.
-
Any of the dreaded drone at moderate speed Ian? Another trick i was told was to open up the rear muffler, take out the tangled web of coiled pipe, weld straight thru pipes, fill with steel wool for sound proofing etc, anyone tried this???
-
A lot of the overseas mags complain during testing the very thing you speak of Graham, TC killing the fun, switch it off & you have the one wheel spinning etc etc. You would think on high a power (& price) M545i they would include LSD.
-
Can you fit LSD with traction control? Would they fight each other???
-
4ltr twin cam v8 vs 3.4ltr 2 valve, no comparison, no wonder you wouldn't go back! M30 is from the old days Simon, harks back to the old 3.0csl days, now belongs in a museum like its owner! Rugged old school.
-
Nikasil Vs Alusil, i know what i would rather have. Neither, cast iron block. Believe what you want, plenty of those blocks replaced here.
-
Plenty of E39 M5's around, bring something special back. ( low volume)
-
Overall consumption will be lower on the M60 V8 compared to the M30, hard to get good fuel economy from the M30 in a heavy E34 shell. The E28 does better( so i was told) due to it's lightweight. If you start looking at the V8, get it checked out. Nikasil vs Alusil block issues.
-
Go down to column How do i apply to have my non-compliant vehicle .........
-
Yeah if you own it overseas you can bring it back. Here is part of the regs Gus. http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/factsheets/44a.html

Don't have March TBMW so not sure, have May TBMW where they tested a D10 Vs B10 - Macau Blue (both Bi Turbo).
-
Ultimate E34 package even today, Mr E34. 8 seconds quicker to 150mph than 3.8ltr E34 M5. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/501210.htm

Welcome to Bimmersport & the E34 club.
-
First check would be that the ecu etc has got 12v, the relay that supplies the voltage can fail with bad contacts, resistance increases causing low voltage to ecu.(i had this) Could be a truck load of other things, need to eliminate one at a time.
-
Welcome to Bimmersport.( & the E34 club, 1or2 of us) MR E34.
-
Don't believe it, trick pix?

Think i read the McLaren F1 car (6.1ltr ) has the same block casting as your csi, obviously changed bore/stroke. That 6.1ltr would have to be the most powerful LARGE CAPACITY N/A engine around, thanks Paul Rosche!!
