  1. So same as my E34 then basically. Although this one has a service history, E34 did not. Ah well, brought it anyway. Even made money on the sale of my E34!!!!!!!

Hope all goes well, the E39 is a lot more complex compared to our old E34's.

I think from memory all the suspension arms are aluminium, must go like stink with a modern 3.5ltr V8.

Let us know what your thoughts are on the E39 after owning for 6mths.

  2. With 200k's on the clock everything has been well used, i.e. wheel bearings, suspension shocks/bushes, fuel injectors/pump, exhaust etc etc so depending on work done this car would be a must for dealer check.Repairs can cost a fortune compared to the great value these cars are now.

ps. hope i'm not too negative on old cars but the advice i was given was to suspect its a pile of trouble till proved otherwise. Trust is good, SECURITY is better!

  4. Hi,

Looking at a 535i E39 and wanting to know what faults to look for.

    Any help appreciated.

    Mark

Mr E34 don't know much about E39. The main fault is the shape! Just kidding, the engine should be ok being Alusil, suppose the only thing i have heard is cooling system failures due to high pressure/temps etc.

Get a full BMW dealer inspection and speak personally to the tech that did the actual check and get his thoughts on the E39. Don't rely on any so called expert.

    My 2 cents.

  5. Thats the problem with all this SMG business. You can't beat a good manual gearbox.

600k Ferrari V12 stopped outside my house due to DIFFERENTIAL ERROR, engine ecu shut the whole car down.

Dealer plugged in portable scan unit, cleared error and off they went.

Whats it going to be like in 10-15yrs with these cars???

  6. Nice looking Astra Graham, must fly when at 100k's++ when you have full momentum.

Family just bought one of the top spec Astra SRi Sport with 2.2ltr motor, runs very strong.

Must catch up some time at a meet.

    Boris.

Any ideas for engine transplant for the E30 Touring?

  7. Haha, at least when my car is screaming away in extasy, all I have to do to shut it up is turn off the ignition, peace and quiet and NO COMPLAINING!!!! :P

    Will

Don't forget Will if there are any complaints with the touring you know i will take it off your hands for a modest sum!

  8. Glenn wants to do something different. We are both old school gits and believe there is no better sound generated than that of six side-by-side ram-tubed carburettors with mouths wide open absolutely screaming for MORE AIR!!!!

    Better than sex... :P

    Will

I know where you guys are coming from but the more 'logical' (used loosely)is to fit up individual throttle bodies (fantastic sound) with a fully mapped ecu. You can never tune carbs across the rev range like fuel injection, only my opinion.

Nah, a car(not even an M) can never substitute for a women!! post-1048-1201988631_thumb.jpg

p.s. not unless you sell me your 325i Touring!

  9. Have owned my e36 coupe for 2.5 yrs really good car to drive.

looking to repower with toyota v8 as 325 has overheated when the radiator neck broke off.post-2729-1201761722_thumb.jpg

Shame about the motor, believe me plenty of cooked BMW's because of the dopey plastic side tanks/fittings.It's always the hot side that breaks off, tanks crack or rubber seal gives. Planned life span, and engines now run hotter/higher pressure.

  10. No allegedly - it definitely is and I would not give him any of my money

I only used that word for legal reasons, out of PRINCIPLE i would not use that place anymore. It's allegedly easy to pay yourself hundreds of thousands as wages and drain the account. The alleged real estate is just down my road so know about it.

  11. Cheers Boris

They will add a little class compared to those aftermarket Beyerns won't they.

Unsure as to tyre type, but overall condition is apparently good.

If you need them picked up let me know, unless the onr wants to drop them off here for shipping etc.

If you need tyres i would recommend Goodyear Eagle F1. Fantastic tyres for the $$$, all 4 cnrs on my car(17") $1000.

  12. Splashed out on some new feet for the 540

Some of you might have seen these going on TM - I know Martyn did at least ;)

Have always wanted a set of Alpinas and 18" at a reasonable price I just got silly with the Accept fixed price offer button!

    post-2351-1201830846_thumb.jpg

I might need a favour from one of you Auckland brothers at some stage - don't worry, not to pay for them!

Good to see some more 'Alpina Class', those 20 spoke wheels are timeless.

Do they have good rubber? What type of tyre?

  13. its what shelleys put in .....but i have,nt been using it lately, and strangely oil consumption seems to have gone up...

I was told NOT to put in THIN synthetics.Bavarian put in my 535is a good Motul dinosaur oil, uses no oil between services.(Team Mc Millan BMW use magnatec for older)

A lot guys with older 300zx cars stuffed the top ends using thin synthetics, they are too thin for older engines with wider tolerances etc.

They use a diff grade in the daughters 318is as well.

  14. I've owned my car now for 7 months. In that time I've put almost 5000 km's on it. I still have three green lights up on my service indicator.

With previous cars I've owned I've done oil changes every 6 months or 5k. So, question is; should I do an oil/filter change between services or just wait until the inspection light comes on?

And also, what oil do you recommend?

With regards to oil for your engine, phone your local BMW dealer to find out what they use.

  15. i wait for the light its about 12000 k for me,but my car gets a good run each day.I ussually use castrol synthetic( cheapish from dealer with cc discount).I think there is an override for time, check owners manual

    Yeah 10-12000k's seems about normal.

Are you sure synthetic is o.k. for our older M30??? BMW usually put in Magnatec or Ersnt at Bavarian uses a good Motul oil.
