I'm after $14,000 for it with the new cam and chip fitted. It has a fully rebuilt engine, new rings bearings etc and has had most of the bushes changed for nolathane. Runs very well.

I'm guessing it's the E12 4 cyl M10 engine with twin Stromberg 175CDET carburettors, in which case it should take most M10 engine parts, including gearbox? I doubt if much else will fit from the later cars, although it is the pre E28 model, so who knows.

Bet I know what it is, eh?

I got a 6mm steel bracket made up, you need to get it bent to fit the mounting points as they're not on the same plane, the top is back from the bottom, 30mm if I remember rightly. I used the E28 mounts as my template to get the shape and bolt hole position for the new part, and the E34 mounts as template for the engine holes, if that makes sense? You only need to do the drivers side one, there are 3 holes on the other side you can use.

isn't the throttle body position all wrong for a M20?
-
The replica you have, is it based on the M20 or M30 block? The pic above is a M30 turbo from Schnitzer.

A lot of cars have had diff changes, so you can find different ratios across the range now. Look around the wreckers, including Pickapart, and Hellbm on here, and keep an eye on trademe, they turn up regularly. Should have known Brent would have some too.

Rumour has it that schnitzer produced some of these, early 80's, anyone know of them at all?
-
Is that the one he got cut and rewelded?
-
Getrag 240 from a M40 318 will not fit. Not so certain on the 240 from a M20 motor, maybe someone else knows?
-
i believe it will fit, but quite a lot smaller, strangle it a lot I would think.
-
you'd need to change the whole lot incl ecu and loom, and do the manual conversion thing, M40 box don't fit sorry.

Seems to be a good buy if interested. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=171174028

Must have had a sh*t driver for Gus to beat it.

If it's sitting uneven it's more likely a spring problem, they're what hold the car to ride height, shocks are more like the springs little helpers, control rebound and rate at which spring works etc, from what I understand? Springs control ride height.

No need to talk dirty to him on his bday Ollie.

AFAIK the tacho is universal 4 or 6 cylinder, it's set by the small coding plug in the front of your instrument cluster. May only apply to facelifts tho?
-
Welcome, looks nice, paint code should be on the passengers front strut tower.

All looks right, same as I've done except my car is an E28 525e, so M20 motor, and I'm implanting an E35 3.5. You're a little luckier in that your E28 has an M30 in it already, so wiring's a little easier. The only wire difference is E34 pin 9 goes to E28 pin 9 in mine, tacho wire. Connector in the E34 is called X20, not C101. The M20 E28 only uses 10 pins in the C101 connector, so quite a few of the E34 monitoring functions are not used, and I've left unconnected. I have my motor turning over, but haven't seriously tried to fire it yet, so much to do.

Same here Bravo, never a problem, also using firefox.

So, by 525i, I'm assuming you're talking m30 engine? I can maybe help if it is.
-
I have the 535 side if you need?

That's what my race car started out as, manual everything and no sunroof, perfect.
