I think the tipping point was reached about year 2000. We now have Technoligy gone mad for the sake of Technoligy. It's like a race now with all the manufacturers to bring out something new every year and alot of it, although nice, is not necessary ie: Do we really need cars that park themslves ? imagine what happens when that goes wrong ?.... Woman crushed in Foodtown car park by (Euro) car parking itself. My biggest gripe is the use of recycled products ie: Plastics, used internally on engines, running gear and cooling systems. The recycled plastics start breaking down after 4-5 years and fails. The use of these products by the Euro manufacturers is an agreement they have to maintain a high level of recylability with the cars they make. This is detrimental to the life & relibility of the products they now make and is the cause of probably about 70% of the mechanical faults we now have to deal with. I could end up writting a book here Grant. I wasn't expecting this, this morning

Not the same issues. The asian manufacturers don't have to adhere to the same recycling laws that prevail with the Euro manufacturers. Most engine failures on Euros are due to recycled plastic components inside engines or their cooling system components. Its f**ken criminal that you can destroy a M5 or M6 (the list is longer and covers all Euros) because of a $35 cooling system component.

I'd also like to add...its not just BMW. We work on Mercedes, Audi, VW & BMW... the late model cars (post 1998)suffer from similar techical sh*t and similar failures.. just the description might be a little different. I wonder if I need to ring my lawyer now ?
-
I read someware: BMW= Broke my wallet I do this to poor people everyday... quite sad really
-
I'd still be doing it 10-15,000 k intervals personaly
-
I honestly don't feel I want to upskill and spend a f**ken fortune to fix sh*t that either fails in your care or as it drives out your door way. I'd rather work on pre 2005 vehicles. There is more than enough work out there without all the dealership politcal bullshit. I also like to sleep at night

With world economies changing, car manufacturers will suffer as they keep building dealership protectionism into their cars. Alot of this nonsence is exactly this...

My 2004 Xtrail has cost me 1 camshaft position sensor, oil & filters... nothing else in 65,000km apart from 2 sets of tyres and 2 wheel alignments. The wifes current Suzuki Swift has had normal sevices and 4 tyres in 70,000km. I've spent over $20,000 on my Toy

The Jappa... thats why I have always driven Nissan (for me) Honda Toyota & Suzuki for wifey. No money in fixing Jappas... Euros give me a lifestyle

Exactly

Yes it did... it's built into the purchase price Edit: It cost the original (1st owner)

Looking at the seats... someone had a real problem (the drivers) with Flatulence
-
And eat it...try eating a MAF sensor

I'm starting to wonder with the new cars, is the lifetime of a new car just the first 3 years while its under warranty ? Not just BMW, but most Euro cars start shitting themselves gradualy after the first 4 years...some start earlier though.

Once youve been there longer Greg you will have tools under you to do that sort of thing

Very correct and well said Tom. The word "respect" being a highlight

Same badge.... different list

Batteries kill alternators...alternators kill batteries. Batteries and alternators kill computers and control units. I would advise anyone owning a late model hi tech vehicle to replace their battery / batteries every three years regardless of condition and only use the type / capacity advised by the manufacturer. Mercedes will actualy come up with a replace battery now error code on their OBC now.

Check my PM Phil

I must edit what I previously said Phil. Coding the failed component should be covered. Recoding other associated components or software upgrades are not covered.
