I see in the engine photo "X" marks the spot between No1 & No2 cylinders. Is this where it turns to sh*t at some point ? Looks like it's there from factory

The O2 sensor codes are the result of something else. Air leaks, airmass sensor or over/under fueling

The problem we have these days is the age group difference Brian. We might understand it, but they may not. Younger people have not been taught the lifeskills and manners that we and our parents were taught. This is a deterioration within the education system and family comunication... no one talks anymore and there is total lack of discipline & self discipline within society these days.... just 2cents from an old farts perspective

The scanner using fault codes & live data does this measuring more accurately

M42 pre 96 & M44 after late 1996. Chassis number would tell me

The symtoms of a faulty thermostat, which will also cause poor fuel economy, but not noticeable richness from the exhaust. As I said before .. get it scanned first... trying this & trying that will get you no where

If the scanner will read the BMW, you will then have to rely on the person using it. If he is not BMW knowledgeable you might end up frustrated and wasting money.

You need to start with a scan first, then check live data readings and proceed with further diagnosis from that point

To save you all this frustration...why not seek the help of a professional to diagnose the fault and give you the right answers and advice ?
