  1. In case he needs to do some repairs etc in the future.
  2. Also those plates were issued at different rates around the country. The first couple of letters bear _some_ relation to the year but they are not an accurate guide.
  3. Ahhhh there's nothing like personal opinion to get a decent debate going ....so Ill add my tupp'ny worth. Personally I think TG is rubbish now. In the old days with Tiff, Vicki and Quentin it was quality because Clarkson had a couple of rivals when it came to personality. He was kept to a couple of briefs spots where his dry wit and humour was extremely funny. Now however with there only being the three of them (and the other two being complete twats) he has an hour to fill and they struggle to find the filler between the genuinely funny stuff. I still watch it because there is fcuk all else, but I prefer 5G. The two parts however will never be the same as the whole. I will never forget one of the TG episodes where the four of them were in one of the (then) new Roller convertibles. Tiff was driving the other three with the top down and it was pi$$ing with rain. After a few seconds of them 'eating the cucumber sandwiches' and 'wafting in sheer luxury' etc, he started hurtling down the airstrip doing 360 handbrake spins  Whereas Clarkson losses control regularly and laughs it off as being 'the beast within', Tiff really can handle a car and I could only dream of being able to do what he does with his eyees closed. I also cant help the fact that Id love to help Vicki sort out that lisp of her's :pimp:

I couldnt agree more. If youe got it flaunt it.Anyway to stay on topic I think a nice set of Alpinas would set the touring off nicely. Not too keen on white I have to say but its looks pretty reasonable.

I think he was having you on mate, its a 320iIve got a mate who has a 535 badged as a 516 just to wind people up as he goes steaming passed them.
  6. They were the optional upgrade for the E32 750iL. Very rare as there werent too many sold with them.Dont think too much of them myself !
  7. Yep thats the iL for you.I dont know if it was fair to compare the rear legroom to the 'standard' merc as there is always the 740i to use. My 750iL was enormous in the rear. Im 6'5 and even with the front seat all the way back, I could still sit in the seat behind it without my knees hitting the seat. Basically you take the standard car, cut it in half just behind the b pillar, add 4.5 inches and weld it all back together. Not quite that simple but you know what I mean. Ive just been sent a link to the german ebay site where a guy is selling the interior from a highline iL. He has the rear tables, the door cards, the seats and the center console with the drinks cabinet etc. :pimp: Give me a shout if/when you want to have a poke around mine.
  8. I just noticed your in Wellington, so seriously. If you want to take a look/ride, give me a shout. I spent 6 months looking for this car in the UK.Id be happy to meet up and have a chat.
  9. Nikasil is/was a major issue for the M60 but only in countries where the sulphur content in the petrol is very high. I dont know how NZ petrol compares but you need to make sure the car starts and idles nicely. A rough idle at start up is the dead give away. \ if you want to know more then I know a couple of people in the UK who probably know as much as BMW so give me a shout. If you want to know about an e38 740, then come and see mine
  10. When I replaced mine the bits pushing into the bonnet where at 3 and 9 oclock. Like eveyone has said, take your time and put a cloth under a flat head screwdriver. It is VERY easy to slip.
  11. A friend of mine in Japan has an e32 750iL with the following Sony headunit. have any of you seen this before ? He reckons it was mainly used in South Pacific cars and in Japan/Aus and NZ in particular but he cant get either a manual or a wiring diagram that he needs to fit it. Details are.... SONY CDX 5B817 CD AUTO CHANGER SYSTEM FM-TV 76-90 Mhz, 1-3 Channel AM 522-1628 DC: 12 V negative ground serial no. 11165 Picture....
  12. Its for towing the car, should 'god-forbid' it breakdown. Mine is nicely hidden away behind a pop out insert but seeing as the front is mesh I doubt they had much choice.Ive always liked the new 7 and I like this too. I adore the new 5 but I think Im generally the exception in that regard. They are stunning to drive too, the 730d was incredible. Cheers Martyn

    New here

Have you guys seen this place ? http://www.kalach.easynet.be/bmw_wheels.htm Nice car Sudo, welcome, I would personally wait till I had the car and then check out some other rims on the web. You can usually find dozens of cars the same as yours with different wheels. I agree with Carl, I like the BBS style on the threes, where they the hockenheim rims ? Stick with something that looks genuine would be my advice. Cheers Martyn

    CD Burner

    Hell yeah.

    CD Burner

I asked myself the same question last year and in the end I got a DVD-R to slot into my Dell laptop.Ive never looked back. Had plenty of cd burners and always stuck backups on those, however I quickly ended up with so many cd's I was having trouble storing them. Now I can take backups of my DVD's and not have to worry about compression too much and they work in the cheapo DVD player I picked up from the Warehouse Its personal choice as always, if you dont need to burn DVD's then save yourself the money and spend it on your car. However I would buy the dvd burner if I could afford it and 'futureproof' myself. Cheers Martyn
  16. Why do you want to sell the Alpinas ? Youve got the front skirt and the wheels, do the honest thing and get the rest of the kit to match. Refurbish the wheels, get the locking centers add the odd Alpina logo and your away with a very smart looking car that you wont see around every day. I have a very soft spot for Alpina Cheers Martyn
  17. Sweet, email sent. Any other Wellingtonians want to join us ? I dont intend to make it a big night, just hang around for an hour or two see what Carl can do to Dan's car and have a chat in the sun.....hopefully.
  18. Right couple of things..... Firstly Im taking mine into Page European this week to have a couple of niggles taken care of. I could probably do them myself, but the combination of no tools and no time mean Im a little stuck if I want to get a WOF ! My boss recommended them as she knows the two guys running it, the place is packed FULL of bimmers (mostly e34's the other day) so thats promising. Ill let you know how I find them. Cant be any worse than Shelleys anyway. Secondly, do I sense a mini-meet on Thursday with the odd beer thrown in ? I know feck all about e30's but weve all said we should meet for a beer, maybe Vent's problems and Carl's offer of help is just what we need to have a jar or two. You never know you might learn something :mosh: Let me know the time and place guys and Ill pop along. Cheers Martyn

    Ruined E36?

I dont get it.....I cant see an E36 anywhere ? Its quite possibly the most hideous thing Ive ever seen. Cheers Martyn
  22. I just learnt something very interesting regarding the red needles Alpinas have. In the old days, and Im talking E34's and E32's here, they used normal needles and simply painted them red with a thin brush ! If you look closely enough you can still see the lines of the brush and in the very early days it was not uncommon for them to fade or even look like they had been coloured in with a felt tip pen !!!! Not what you would expect when paying a small fortune for an Alpina. Cheers Martyn
  23. Ive seen a website somewhere where you can get all sorts of colours and designs...I think you could even send in pictures to have your own design. Ill see if I can find it. [EDIT] Not quite as I remembered it but the guy is still trading on ebay.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW Im with Aliluya on this one, black interior, red needles on a white dial looks the dogs bollocks. Cheers Martyn
