^^^^ E36 M3 headers??? A completely different engine. As far as a 525i being "boring & seriously lacking power" - each to their own. We have the same car & it is fine as a family car, & certainly not what I would call boring. I admit it is no rocket ship, but equally no slug, although I guess it is in comparison to the Subi GTB you speak of. That said - much more of a car than the Subaru. If you are that serious in wanting more power (as it sounds you are), seriously, sell it & buy a 540i instead. From what you describe - I don't think you will gain what you are looking for from this one.

Great result to the car- well done Have to say though- I don't think the Scnitzers suit in black. IMO either version wheel in silver would better suit the car
-
Not exactly easy for anyone to diagnose when not in posession of the car. It has a short that could be anywhere in the L/H circuit. If you have no idea - take it to an auto sparky
-
Glad you have it back & happy with it. Hope It all goes well fr you. I too think you should have got the receipts or at least a copy of the invoice for the work done. The fault occured after you purchased & you have a right to know what was done to fix it - for future reference. I too think the description you give of the trouble diagnosis & repair doesn't at all make sense, nor the fact of two weeks to repair such faults.

Yep, tend to agree with above comments re entrapment. I only saw the shorts too & not interested in watching the event. sh*t they promoted it enough during the week too -adds weight to the fact they are merely after ratings. Of topic, I am totally over the dumbying down, sensationalising, PC, edited, crap news we get on TV now. Used to watch TV 1 but got totally pissed with them, switched to marginally better TV3, I reacon they are on a par now. All I want to see is proper informative news, no flashy/fake smiley presenters, throwing in puns at every oportunity they get. Or half hearted interviews that fail to draw an answer out of the interviewee (is that a word )

How do I force my BMW E39 GPS to acquire satellites
hotwire replied to GerryAttrick's topic in Electrical system
Alan - pretty much as Tim has posted, goes into service mode after holding the "menu" buton for about 8 secs. Into GPS data & checke the sattelite reception/strength. Should see about six satellites. Try disconnecting the battery for a while & see if it reboots correctly:- If still an issue -could be a problem with the GPS antenna of the receiver in the nav unit. I can help you out either way. Upgrading to widescreen won't fix the problem or the upcoming analogue shutdown as the OEM digital video modules are the wrong format for NZ. This too can be overcome though. Get in touch if you need a hand -
Bugger all, work it out from the numbers:-

^^^^ M4 & V6... dosen't sound very BMW. Have to query their logic on that M4 bit Old story, if it aint broke... Not that I have anything against V6 but it certainly breaks tradition of the inline 6's that BMW are reknown for & have won many awards for over the years.

Tower - when I checked - they were nowhere near the ball park with any policies for me. Raewyn, seems strange what have I missed? Have you had a claim? How long have you had a policy? Have you checked third party, fire/theft as an option?

State is a swear word for me... long memory - I was shafted by them way back when I was a teenager at home & in my dads car. A minor incident but told I was not subsequently going to be covered driving any of the family members cars - yep all with State (along with all other insurances). Old man then told them to cancel all policies I/we have always been with AMI, & when I last did a comparison - AMI were still the most competitive I found - over all policies. AA stacked up as next best.

Mines quick now too... Thanks. Was as slow as a week last night to load every page - (like about a minute ) , as Greg said - everything else was fine

Steering rack replacement - HELP!
hotwire replied to huff3r's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
You will need the car on the ground, wheels centre -get one person to move (toggle) steering wheel left to right, while from undeneath - feel which joint there is movement in - inner or outer tie rod joints, or play in the rack itself. Being that it is in both ends - shouldn't be the rack itself -
^^^^^ Yup agree, they look an overkill. I reacon 18's look the best proportion on an E46
-
Unless it's scoured the bore of course. Certainly worth fixing tough
-
^^^^ Yup totally agree. Won't necessarily have a cracked head at all. If the engine has been looked after up to that milage - then assuming confirming all good once head removed - definitely worth fixing. Is it known how hot it got? To help determine whether rings may have lost tension Replacement engine - can be an unknown quantity.

Should have one in Te Awamutu Paul. PM me

Old annoying uptight ............................................
hotwire replied to 1quad1's topic in Electrical system
Not us that should be getting a life . I was not being negative at all. Regardless of the bypass working, the system is not as per OEM & so is deemed illegal. As mentiond above, I too would be pissed if I bought a car to later find the system had been tampered with in that way. Imagine a toddler in a car seat ( not encouraging them in the front seat) & getting seriously beaten up by an airbag that would not normally have deployed with a working sensor in place. And for your information - I am NOT on here for negativaty. That said - I don't endorse illegal practices on cars. Edit - just seen your edit Dipshit huh - thanks for the compliment -

Can't help as not in CC but I personally would not reset an airbag circuit for anyone that has been tampered with the system (exc hard wiring faulty plug connections), regardless of the mod -
Hell of a lot of car for 8g, well done! Alfa's are a quirky car... just never really been my scene. I can certainly understand how people love them though
-
^^^^^^ Yup, all great random shots - well done, but green a little over empasized I think - in both first & second.
-
Really has to be dismantled (remove head) to confirm extent of damage - maybe warped/cracked head? Before assertaining requirements/costs to repair Current condition & milage of car may contribute as to justifying repair or not

Wasn't in the workshop for a Selespeed issue was it? Local Fiat/Alfa specialist is kept rather busy sorting issues in the systems. Looks a great example of although I must confess I am not a big Alfa fan myself
