Quite likely a crook nav unit. Disconnect it, let the car go to sleep (about 20mins) & when it reboots if the nav unit is faulty the screen will show different graphics than what you are used to - this is the video module now controlling graphics now that there is no nav unit connected. If still no graphics - probably the monitor itself. Also try disconnecting the battery & see if it resets. You can leave the nav unit disconnected or better still - convert the system to run NZ nav. Yes the unit could be crook but still spinning the disc. If it has no power light illuminating (LED) then it is definitely crook. No, nothing to worry about as far as programming when disconnecting the battery. PM me if you have queries

You can get a new case/blank key & get it cut to yours & swap the internals over. I did this to replace one of my remote keys that had mangled rubber buttons Also, the cars, when new, come with four keys: Two remotes, one valet & one plastic service key. IIRC the EWS can accept ten keys being programmed - meaning six replacements.

If the graphics have changed, it sounds like it has reverted to video module graphics (due to nav not operating) 1, Have you tried disconnecting the battery to reset? N.B. WAIT until the nav unit has powered down BEFORE disconnecting. 2, Mk3's will be corrupted if using the incorrect mode SW disc 3, Depending on which version it had against what you have upgraded to - it may need unlocking with a key CD

Mk1 nav? That's the first generation unit. Could be a crook nav unit or as mentioned above - disconnect the battery & see if it resets

Yup, Benz & wiring - sh*t!!! I understand the insulation is recycled plastic - requirement of Europe for recycling %content of a vehicle. I have seen many late ish Benz cars with brittle delaminated wiring - a couple that have caught fire because of. Opel use this style wiring too. Have never come across this in a BMW - I understand their recycling requirement is used in body plastics rather than wiring. Makes sense as some of the plastics in BMW are sh*t - seat trims, cup holders etc. Still I would rather this than the wiring falling to bits. That car - amazing, seem to remember having seen/read that before

Yup, in the E39 - driving the other half nuts! The car is virtully immaculately clean inside, certainly no food - only the peppermints in the door pocket (that they find). Has been an on/off problen for the last few yrs, have had bait down sporadically, problem seems to dissappear... only to.... Adding to I CBF pulling the car apart to try to find a nest so my simple resonse to her - put some more bait down. That in itself probably adds to her frustration. In the 20+ cars i have owned - I have never had ants before.

Well... instead of chasing your tail & guessing with switches (unlikely to be at fault) - get it checked by an auto sparky. Prolly a 10 min job to diagnose
