Ok, pic below I have arrowed your idle valve. It is temp controlled by passing water through it and opens and closes an air duct according to temp of the water. It is inclined to stick or fail if the cooling system is not maintained and cheap antifreeze is used. I would suggest removing it and check if the valve is operating correctly. There are 4 pipes to it, 2 from the cooling system and 2 providing a bypass air flow to increase/decrease the idle. Look through the holes which provide the airflow, you will see a piston with a slot in it. When cold it will be wide open. Put the unit in boiling water and see if it closes almost right up. If it doesn't you can try soaking it in a light penetrating oil for a while and then test it again. If this doesnt work, relplace it. Check the two air pipes to it, one will go under the manifold to the vent at the top of the rocker cover, this pipe often cracks at the rocker cover and leaks air which will speed up the idle. But check both pipes along their length for cracks etc and replace if cracked. Also check that the water pipes to the idle valve are free and passing water through them, be careful of the one pipe that is attached to the base of the thermostat housing, the connection there is delicate and you will break it off if not careful. It also corrodes under the pipe so watch this too. From the other side I have arrowed the idle screw in yellow. Once you have sorted the idle valve, set your idling with this screw. Check all the pipes to it for leaks/cracks. I have also arrowed the breather from the top of the rocker cover in pink, this is the pipe that often cracks and leaks air, check it carefully. Try these things first and see how you go. The 327 eater was doing exactly what yours is doing and I found it to be a combination of cracked pipes and a faulty idle valve and coolant pipes that were blocked and didn't allow water to flow through the valve. Yup, learned that lesson a long time ago, start at the simple and work your way into the impossible!! Glad you got it sorted. 323 is a strong good car imo.. I have a rather famous "327 eater", nobody has managed to kill it yet, check out the posts under meetings, northland meet. Is an old 323 that refuses to die no matter how much torture is handed out to it!! And it has been handed some!!! Will

I suppose you could mod another to work but hardly worth the headache, plenty second hand available on this site. My experience with these modules is that they do not easily fail. I would check the dizzy cap, rotor and leads before condemning the module, also check that the coil is not on the way out. Also, if the coil has a suppressor across it, it may also be faulty. Make sure earth connections are good, these can cause problems in older e30's. If you find you need a module, I can probably find one somewhere.. Will

Theoretically you could try but would need to keep a close watch on the water level. Also, depends on how much water may have got into the sump/oil. Too much and you can run bearings. How many cylinders have water in? If the blow is too big, you will just blow all the water out the radiator in a very short time and even blow the radiator if you leave the pressure cap on. I wouldn't do it unless I was really desperate. Rather tow it or trailer it. If it is an auto, you will need to trailer it, or remove the propshaft or you will wreck the gearbox if you tow it too far or at speed..

Take a photo of your engine from the driver's side focusing on the intake manifold and one from the passenger side focusing under the intake manifold just in front of the starter. I just want to make sure what setup you have before commenting on possibilities. Will

that is a small job, a Will project involves reducing the car to a shell and then re-everythinging it. Will

If you have a prefl 320, it is likely to have had a dizzy on the side of the block. If so, you will not be able to use the prefl flywheel as it will not have a tdc lug on it. However, if you can locate a fl flywheel with one on, you can relatively easily copy it across to the prefl one, but its position is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL... DO NOT GET IT WRONG!!!!

Well, if your sailing skills are anything like your driving skills....... (what are your sailing equivalents of potholes, pukekas etc etc etc ???)

Fitting a kit is hardly a project Nope..

As the title says, I want an E28 Mtech kit, complete or whatever you have lying around. PM me if you have anything.. Will

Check your rotor and cap Shane. Also check coil hasn't gone belly up. Will

Afraid not Gus, there must be an open circuit somewhere, had this problem with Alley's wagon, eventually found a break in the wire behind the dash after much swearing and a LOT of time... The thing is, you probably pull your wheels off regularly and check pads etc so you shouldn't have to rely on the light. Just take the bulb out until you are ready to do the hard tracing yards. my 2c Will

Get it balanced Chris, as Tony says, then it might have a chance of surviving you.. "Fixed for good", when you add your driving style and your amazing ability to attract wayward Holdens etc etc etc, is a total impossibility !!!!

Your E46... just as tuff.. needs a good run on the beach to show how fast it is too.. (once it is manual, of course..)

My one was identical except it had white leather. This one got cruise control?

I have not ever seen a small case 3.64 Glenn, so good luck. Have to be 3.64?

I have medium case Glenn, nothing small. Will

Hahaha, Em, so in a like vein, your 325, even with a dumb high-speed heiffeltower blonde strapped behind the wheel, is simply a pukeko murderer and a pothole locator..

You need to remove those square plates that mount the towbar. They have a long!! piece of angle bar that goes up the chassis rail and held in place by a bolt about 2/3 of the way up the rail towards the driver's side on the underside of the rail. Once those are removed the standard bumper mounts will work. Will

As I probably can't fit a BMW GPS to my e30, was thinking of getting one of these stand-alone units. Anyone tried them or have any comments as to how good, or not, they might be?? Trademe link to what seems to be a reasonable unit..GPS

Check the "custom" mounts, should be a warning as to what the rest of it is like. Also, his "seller" feedback is quite startling, suprised he hasn't been kicked off trademe already. I would be VERY wary buying from him. Certainly wouldn't hand over any money until I had viewed and tested the goods!!!
