6 cylinder and 4cylinder diferences ,e30
Mike replied to slipps's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
yip, chris is onto it. Most 320's and 4 cyls came with smaller 45mm struts. 325i's and I think late 323's came with 51mm struts. That is the general case so check before you buy. The struts can be swapped around easily enough, they do require different inserts though. -
best bet is to find a wrecked one with good motor and gbox. that way you have all the bits and you know they'll all work they are completely different engine management systems. one is L-jet (320) the other (325) is motronic. I'm not sure how much you would need to change. definately engine loom and ecu, probably gbox or modify yours to work. Things like instrument clusters may also need some playing with to get working.
-
they'll fit depending on the offset. You want around ET25 for those widths, tho the 8" rims will be very close to the strut at that offset. ET20 (8" rim) will definately clear the strut, but will probably require guard rolling. I'd run 225/45R16 for both those rim widths.

FWIW all 325i's are motronic. (i haven't seen one that isn't from the factory) 323i and pre-fl 320i were L-jet along with M10's.

dam, i'm NKxxxx, soo close.

just try a jump start man

Idiot cyclists piss me off. you see them riding 2 wide on narrow roads, and will quite happily meander along in ignorant bliss. Happens off road too. Karapoti is one of the few places your allowed dirtbikes. we'll be on our side of the road come round a blind corner and they're 2 up! Our bikes aren't quiet so they know we're coming and its an area known for bikes. Worse still they'll move back even after a near miss and try suicide once more. munters. happens far more than you'd think.

cool, I will be seriously impressed if it comes close to that sort of grunt. any idea on what sort of cam, or rev range we're looking at?
-
3.91 would be ok, still be pretty quick between gears though. a 3.73 would be good if you could find one, theres a few 3.64's around but they might be a bit tall. comes down to what suits your driving a bit. some of the fuh raze guys in the states run 4.10's in 325i's, mad if you ask me for street driving
-
what are you doing for you engine management antony? getting a zone chip, or link or similar
-
Dam, thats really short for a manual 320i. see how it goes well for you but I think you'll be looking for a taller diff pretty soon. 3.91 would be my ideal replacement, they're a bit harder to come by though, don't even try for a 4.10, blame the race series.

300hp from a 2.7 NA M20? I seriously doubt that without forced induction, but would love to see if it could be done. 200hp is what most 2.7's seem to make, depeding on other mods.

thats very cool. welcome

it will be an 1800, even the 316 for that year was just a carbed 1800. nice wee car btw
-
very cool. seats are very nice. are those MK wheels?
-
loving the engine bay. good to hear theres a few silencers in there too. I reckon a rotary is a good little engine for an e30 as they are light cars, the noise coming from a few dickheads cars (we all know the stereotype) puts me off them a bit though. looking forward to seeing it finished, keep us updated.
-
the whole lot will bolt in. some E30's are solid in the front and drums rear. The vented fronts will swap right in, to put rear disks in you will need to swap the trailing arms too. Handbrake cablesand a few other llittle bits may need to be swapped too. there are a few BBK out there for e30's but all pretty pricey. massive, UUC, and ireland engineering all sell kits to name a few.

unless someone makes a better offer by end of tonight its yours.
-
some interior bits like speaker mounts would be cool. I'm mainly thinking tweeter mounts for the doors by the mirrors?
-
bump. someone make a stupid offer.
-
rad. what size rubber you running?
-
ouch! wheel offset is measured as the distance from the centerline to the mounting face, so by using wider lips you shift the centerline and change the offset. Thats part of the reason why ideal offset changes with rim width.
-
tits. vids now. that torque figure will need to be done in a 1:1 gear and then divided by the diff ratio. (you could do it in another gear and account for that too though)

not as bad as the guy selling instructions on how to reset service lights
