I'd run the first ones no question about it. 19x8.5 ET30 (For the front) would give you the same clearance on the inside towards the strut but would stick out another 16mm (0.6") further than your stock wheels. 19x10 ET37 (For the rear) would give you 11mm (0.4") less clearance inside towards the strut and would stick out another 19mm (0.7") towards the guard. You would almost definitely need to roll your guards, and maybe even flare them which makes it even more awesome! 11mm can be acceptable sometimes, it depends on the car and the application however you can use a 5-10mm spacer to bring it away from the strut if its too close. If you do then the wheel will stick out even further. Stance FTW!
  2. Thanks very much Michael. That is a very good resourse, I haven't come across that before only the other PDF that gives the specs for the things that can be cert'd (It didn't make clear whether or not you actually needed a cert). I'll give a certifier a call and find out some details. Cheers

  7. Get in the line mate. I've been looking for one forever over here. They only came standard (or at all) on convertibles and not many of those get wrecked here. Check out eBay although don't expect them to be cheap.

  9. 5x120 is the stud pattern. 5 is obviously the number of studs or bolt holes and the 120 is the diameter of the studs (mm) as in the picture below. For example e30 is 4x100, 4 lug holes and a diameter of 100mm The offset is the distance from the mounting face to the centerline of the wheel (measured in mm). Zero offset means the mounting face is in line with the centerline of the wheel. Positive means the mounting face is towards the outside of the wheel. Negitive is the opposite, mounting face towards the inside of the wheel. Higher positive offsets are generally found on front wheel drive cars. Negitive offsets are generally associated with large amounts of dish (with a large width). BMW's run positive offsets. E28, E30, E34, E38, E39 etc (The majority of the BMW range) run offsets in the range of 15-25 running normal factory widths. The E36 chassis (E36/Z3), E46 (non M3), E53, E70, E8X, E9X all run higher offsets in the range of 35-45 running factory widths. The E21 and the E30 are the only E code bimmers that run 4 stud. The rest of the range runs 5x120. As the wheels get wider the offset you will need for the car will change as if you increase the width but keep the same offset the wheel will get wider evenly on both sides and may either hit the strut or the guard. Generally as you get wider you would want to lower the offset as you have more room to work under the guards than towards the strut. Hope that helps.

  13. Ashkan is right. E46's run high offsets the same as an E36.For 7.5 - 9ish you can stick around 35-40ish. As the offset decreases the further the wheel and tyre will stick out, also will fill out the guards better.
  14. That isn't to do with the diameter of the wheel (17", 18"). That is to do with incorrect fitment, most likely the wrong offset. No matter what diameter rim you change to the rolling circumference always stays as close to factory as possible. So theres no difference there. The only other factors are the width and the offset. You can pretty much go with any diameter wheel on a E46, although as you get a wider wheel you need to change the offset to avoid the tyres rubbing either on the struts or the wheel arch. Johno will correct me where I might be wrong, has been a long day.

  16. Its a great trip mate. Did the same kinda trip a couple years back. Queenstown was by far my favourite. Just the atmosphere really. Go up the gondola, do the luge (didn't get to when I was there cause of the weather), bungy and ofcourse the Shotover jet. If you're into quad biking theres a great place up in Nelson (or around Nelson) which does tour kind of things, even has a track which you can trash the bikes on after. Was the best tour I have done on quad bikes bar maybe the Ahipara one. Theres another one I think, I can't remember where it was for the life of me but on the tour they go past the most amazing bungy between 2 rock faces. You go out to the middle of the canyon in a box on wires Didn't have the balls to do it before! But would be soo keen to do it if I ever go down there again. Gold mining, can't remember the town either. You'll find it easy enough. Nice little train ride and you get to pan for gold. Not nearly the real thing though, they rig it so all the little kids don't get sad if they don't find any. The glaciers! Definitely something else to see. Have a great time! Unplanned road trips are the best.

  18. Theres no such thing as a 4.4iS.The 4.6iS (M62B46) was sold from the start of E53 production. Then upgraded to the 4.8iS (N62B48).
  19. Earlier E34 prefacelift are 3.0L straight 6's (M30B30) discontinued from about '90. Older (from approx. '92 on) E34 530 were the M60B30 small V8. E39 530's are 6 cylinder 3L (M54B30). 535i is the E39 small V8 (M62B35), 540 obviously the larger V8 (M62B44).
  20. No such thing as a 4.4iS. Only 4.6 and 4.8iS.
