Well it's on a slight incline so if the truck was heading towards Newmarket it would have been going downhill. If the truck was going 60ish like most traffic in Auckland in a 50 it could have easily shunted the smaller one across the road.
  2. Thanks for the offer - I got some stuff and a gun which I think will do the job. I didn't get to it this weekend via general procrastination Looks like it will be next weekend.

Haha, nah it's 50kph, I drove past on Saturday and you could see all the marks on the road from all the action. Everything else was back to normal though, just the Porsche sign missing.

I dunno, the government compelling you to do something rather than just being responsible for your own actions seems a bit PC to me. It's up to the individual to make sure they're protected, not the nanny state.
  5. But it seems, at least from my readings that the OEM product is inferior. Lots of people seem to fix it only to have it fail again quite quickly. Regardless of who does it, DIY or the workshop.
  6. What's a Minerva tyre? Someone was telling me they were OE for a lot of Euro cars like VW, but I can't find any info on them....
  7. So you didn't have to clean off the old seal that had degraded? I went to Bunnings today and purchased a sealer/adhesive so I will get onto it tomorrow. The plan at this stage is to simply apply the sealer over the existing stuff and stick it back down. If I ever need to get back in there I can cut away the area(s) I sealed with a razor and replace with a new barrier.

That'll buff right out, someone had to say it. Why why why would you pull a u-turn there in the middle of the day?! Perhaps they should move the F40 away from the window in the showroom further down the road.
  9. Any interest in selling the clips for the door card? (Are they the ones which go around the sides and bottom of the door? - The circular ones) I wouldn't mind having some spares for when I fix my vapor barrier.
  10. Thanks for the info - I actually had this thread bookmarked - both my doors have developed the wet door sill with no water inside the car as of yet so I plan to tackle it this weekend. Looks like it will be a trip to Bunnings/Mitre 10 for me too. My other question is - do you have to remove and re-install the entire barrier? If possible I would just like to seal the lower areas where it comes away from the door, but I'm conscious the rest of the barrier may fail also if I do that.
  11. How much would someone charge fir this? I've got some silver gauge rings like you have that I imported but I don't have the guts to put them in...
  12. Hi Team, Anyone here have the classic E39 vapor barrier issue? I've got water on the door sills (not inside the car, yet) and when I open the door after hard rain I get a bout a cup full of water which splashes out from somewhere onto the ground. The water seems to drip fairly fast from the door thereafter. Some of the people based in the US have used silicone and 3M tape sealer to fix it. I have two questions: 1. Anyone have a locally available product which would be good to use? 2. Anyone done this before and knows/has DIY/can show me how? Thanks, Nathan.
  13. Think you'll have to go to the dealer for that one. Might take a week or so to get the key in from Germany.
  14. True, I guess the VIN and engine numbers won't match. Someone might notice.
  15. I imagine the reason it's/was so cheap is that the engine has been swapped out and now the km's don't actually match the engine. I think that would be a bit of a turn off for some buyers.
  16. Bit of a waste of time IMO - the stock brakes are fairly good. And if you're car is an M5 you obviously get the special BMW M division brakes. I would just be more concerned with my OEM brakes being well maintained.
  17. Just finished doing all mine too. What a pain.
  18. Or a grey one, I've seen grey and black combined which looks pretty good. You'd at least be using a stock colour without dying etc.
  19. Here is some more info for you: http://www.1000sel.com/index.php?option=co...=9&Itemid=8 I guess there is truth in that 1000SEL is not an official Mercedes model but a badge developed by the various coach builders out there. Personally I am a big fan of 1980's over the top bling and that website is full of it.
  20. Bring the seats into the same brown as the dash and change the wood to piano black or brushed steel and it would be.....okay. I think that's the best you could do.
  21. With all Euro cars I've owned (and that's only been two) I find there is a big spike in maintenance in the first 6-9 months and then it settles down. That's even with a pre-purchase inspection.
  22. Agree, What I did when I was at University was to drive Dunedin to Chch where I could stay with Family then drive to Picton and stay the night catching the early ferry (5am) and then arrive in Auckland that evening. Was a long day but the roads are fairly easy. I think the key is staying the night in Picton and getting a good sleep as you can't really rest on the ferry.

Perhaps I'm just stupid, but isn't the paint there to protect the car and thus should be durable?!
