Sweet! Next milestone: 309789 and a 3rd... ish. Or you can just code the odo to kilometers to watch it click over 500... but they might get upset when your RUCs are suddenly VERY past expired
-
Did it come with the module?
-
And you mean ALL of them, not one of them, right?

318ti M3 Edition....Have i missed something?
Allanw replied to E36_Turbo's topic in TradeMe discussions
It's probably what the car dealer told him when he brought it. There's a lot of clueless ones. This guy possibly believed them, and genuinely thinks it's true? -
Get the done professionally, before they get too bad. Sanding it back removes all the protective coating. It's about $180 a pair at clearlights in auckland.
-
That's dealer speak - It's amazing how many have completely clueless, or wrong adverts.
-
I did see a manual 520d...
-
Bummer dude - that wasn't something I expected to happen!!! Guy Fawkes is still quite a few months away yet! If it was only idling, it may still be worth opening back up and see how bad the damage is.
-
Only a little cutting... 4X4 had it be able to fit :-) I'm still driving it :-) Drivetrain still waiting to go in.
-
Are you sure it's not a wheel bearing? The 2 noisy E30 ones I've heard, did NOT alter in sound when cornering, just with road speed.

Haha! Parts are cheap as chips. Sometimes you need a few! Mine's done 55 miles in the last 4 years, and I've spent about $4K on parts Probably puts it on par with an M car . They eat time, so doing your own work, or having an allowance for VW specialists is a must! Don't let a "normal" mechanic touch them for most things. They aren't really economical either - not by modern standards. PM me if you want more info, or head over to http://www.nzveedubnuts.com Fun, interesting and slow as a wet week. However, it's far superior to Dads 29 Ford

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! It's a secret! No forced induction. yet anyway - probably not ever, but I can dream. Nah, R32 3.2 VR6 and 4x4. Still a LONG way to go. Kids will be moved out of home, by the time it's done :-)

Was it a members car???
-
Haha - I've got far more fun things to spend my car allowance on, and I couldn't think of selling the E39 until I've made it's replacement fast enough for the school run! Could easily be 6 months, to a year (or 3...) ;-)

Maybe he's in the boot?
-
Ours is "cosmetically challenged", but mechanically brilliant - doesn't bode well for selling... ... I might have to "accidently" overheat it, and then may as well fit a 3.0
-
Damn... that's not much money! I was hoping our might be worth a little more than that It's not motorsport (though it has the suspension) but it manual... Maybe I'll keep it longer... until it dies...

Sometimes, a "professional" is just a backyarder with a shop... More often than you'd think too. Of course, sometimes mistakes happen too. Of all the non-dealer shops in town here, there are only a handful I'd ever let touch my car. Actually, I can only think of 4 off the top of my head, and one is the Subaru Service Agent, so I probably wouldn't take the E39 there unless it was a generic repair . That's why I usually just do it myself. Then I only have to fix MY mistakes . At least you found something. I could make a quite a list of ones that I wouldn't use... unless it was a last resort; like my Mum couldn't manage to fix it with a bread knife and some tape first.

Head Bolt threads held OK then??? Awesomeness.
-
Phew, my Beetle is OK then - By the time I'm half way to Auckland, I can usually get to the speed limit Still, it's much faster than the Model A is I even manage to get out of the way when required, instead of telling everyone to "get bent" and "suck my fumes"! It's not really the cars problem of course, it's the a**hole driving, who doesn't give a sh*t about the other road users.

Just for comparisons sake, I sold Dads NZ New 1990 325i SE Manual Sedan for $8K, sight unseen, to the second enquiry (first was a DREAMER!) We're in Whangarei, he's in Christchurch. The sale was about a 3 minute phonecall... he just wanted it, and offered cash in the bank that night, no questions except, would I trust it to drive to CHCH! I stretched it out, to make sure he knew what he was getting (it's not perfect! 235K-ish, but damn honest and tidy). I originally had had it $8800 no reserve, or $9200 buy now. I think, overall, it's not as nice as yours, but it a lot more desirable (especially to older guys, with money ) Details: http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/54221-e30-respect/ Paul from Milland had a PFL 318i Coupe, that was IMMACULATE, seriously immaculate, and the previous owner had it 27 years, with a service history from dealers only, and I think he was looking at similar prices to Dads. I don't know what your's is worth, but it's worth a certain amount, to just the right person An unmolested minter is genrally a better car, than a more powerful shitter . The 15's are still worth a bit too, but some buyers won't appreciate them for what they cost to buy a decent set.

He was saving you for the R32. Awesome engine. Sounds amazing... that's my we need a family car with one in it :-)
-
You can try to torque the old ones, but it's not quite the same. Alloy blocks change shape quite a lot too My mate is an engine machinist, and he's seen blown headgaskets, just from the liners (either cast inserts, or full alloy blocks) moving down, relative to the head bolts. He's had some shops say they tested the threads, then had them pull when the torqued the head anywyay. You have to be able to drill straight down, into the holes - you can't do that on some models (like E39 5's).
-
IF the block is flat, get the block "time-sert"ed before trying to pull a head onto it. Time-Serts are like helicoils, but not crap.
-
Set the AC to defrost then shut down the car, and put a single layer of tissue paper (a single ply from a tissue) on the dash vents. see if it's blown them away during it's "rest". They commonly work perfectly when in use, but turn on and off randomly duirng off times.
