I only read real books - mostly Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams type books (wierd) or murder/mystery - Harlan Coben, Sue Grafton, Kathy Riechs, Tara Moss, Tess Gerritson, Patricia Cornwell and Agatha Christie. I actually like to re-read the Pratchett and Adams ones quite often. I stop off at second hand shops in funny places, because they often sell a bunch of really good used books for really cheap (Ruawai has a couple of good shops I brought boxes of books from, and some small waikato towns). Readers Digest condensed books are good for in the Kombi too - not big and heavy. We don't do TV (too much crap), so it's all books, DVD, or internet... sometimes real people come over too, or we visit them

The dash repair won't have any effect on the engine, unless they've done some REALLY silly, and unrelated. Before jumping in and replacing coils, scan for codes. If your mechanic doesn't have the gear, you need a different mechanic - guesswork is a waste of money on these things. Even after reading the codes, someone who knows how to interpret them, and diagnose the issues needs to have a crack at it. I'd be suprised if you had multiple coil failures all at once, and one or two coils would still let the engine rev, it'd just be lacking power and be very rough feeling.

Actually... I'm the cook, (but she's good too) - I just rebuilt myself an old kenwood mixer, that I told her is my Christmas present... I don't think she knows how much it really cost me to do . We don't have TV, so DVDs appear a LOT for presents . She also tried to set fire to our old chopping board
-
I got her a cook book, some cooking show DVD's and..... a chopping board. All sorted.

Holy crap... it's like a reverse Tardis - Those mirrors look like they're from a car 3 times the size of the interior??? Are they for seeing EVERYthing behind you, or stopping the car going more than 4km/h over the limit?

HEY! You have the same safety boots as I do! The work is looking awesome too
-
Is this because racecar??? Otherwise, get a 325i. The 320i is slower AND hungrier.
-
Yup - that's about as sh*t as it gets. Did I just see him suggest the jaguar S type ??? Retard.
-
What was wrong with the Mariah Carey or Cliff Richard ones? Order for Gorbachev!
-
Ha... so the car is running. Needs two new ball joints though, for WOF First time though.
-
specially the ones with a proper gearbox...
-
The book is sh*t. Oh, you mean the car... It IS the fuel pump - new one arriving today - normally I'd order one and fit it myself, but it's already IN the workshop, and they diagnosed it and everything - only charging an hours labour for the whole thing.
-
You probably COULD pull off the "more fuel efficient" part... Don't try for the safer - I can pass faster, so it's safer... Uh-huh!
-
Sounds like the fuel pumps are sh*t - may need replacing every 200K or 20 years, whichever comes first
-
Fixed that for you. My van parts guy will have a container leaving the UK soon, we could get him to bring a 6 speed box

He doesn't know what he'd replace it with! If I bought it, and he replaced it with a Camry? I'd have to kill myself.

Dad's E30 had it's first ever actual breakdown yesterday. I think he'd had it 15 years October just gone. It's a 1990 325i SE manual and is getting up near 230K now. It's had minor repairs like a clutch (1), brakes, a starter, an alternator repair etc, but this was the first time it EVER refused to start and left him stuck. I thought it was impressive - it's never left him stranded anywhere, and the first time it does..... ..... the mechanic at a workshop giving it a WOF is driving it, INSIDE the workshop . When it finally breaks down, it's in the perfect place! Dad's stoked with it, it by far the best car he's ever had. If he wins lotto, he's going to have it rebuilt/restored top to bottom

I've heard tyre pressures, or different wear levels/brands causing it, but I don't really see whay a light trailer would make much difference. You didn't have the trailer upsidedown did you?

*Cough*Manual conversion*ahem*

Oooof! Bummer about the car, though glad it did what it was supposed to. I'm continualyy stunned by Kiwi's poor lane control and how many STUPID times we are on the wrong side of the centre line. Shame the cops don't worry about it until it's too late. Get well soon!

Have two of them next door - they sound awesome! So does his RV8!

Only if it works... Who's making them, and do they know what they are doing??? There have been versions opened up on other forums, only to find the compnenets twisted together with wire, wrapped in take and poked in a cover. Those trademe ones don't look stunning, and aren't cheap when you consider there's about .50c of components stuck into a plug (which is on the old pad anyway). The occupancy sensor can sometimes be coded out anyway. If you use a bypass, you REALLY want to plug it into diagnostics afterwards, to make sure the seat is occupied. Then NEVER put a kid in the front. Potential manslaughter charges await for those who fit the sensor and the airbag doesn't go off, or those who put a child in the front seat, and the airbag DOES go off, when it shouldn't.
