  1. Just a bit more to this, a new fan clutch will initially spin up and pull air when first started cold ( a bit of wind roar), but will then disengage after about a minute or so, until heat from the radiator re-engages it for actual cooling purposes. I've just replaced mine, easy job, get right tools, careful with fan shroud etc as you lift it up to remove. Handy at same time to replace fan itself, and if really keen do water pump and thermostat whilst you are in there (taking shroud out completely). Easy as.. I personally can't see the point of (mechanical) fan delete with a clutch and fan in good operating condition...
  2. Welcome along, great to see another "modern classic" in enthusiastic ownership...
  3. No need to remove bumper. the black plastic surround will pop off when pulled in correct direction. Grab the black surround that wraps around the foglight on the inboard side of the light and pull on this both frontwards and sideways towards outboard of car. The flat bit of the surround with the alternator air intake should pop its two tabs out on the inboard edge and the plastic will come right off. Don't wrench at it, just give it a moderate controlled pull and you'll work it out from seeing what happens. Then a single bolt to remove light. Installation is a reversal of above procedure... Easy peasy... Good chance to give the area a good clean and even paint the black surround.
  4. Well... up higher than what I was expecting...
  5. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1134958076 Start price 7900, with reserve higher, looks an import, relatively low k's, dealer, worth a look for local e39 fans....
  6. If autobid used then bid would show $1.50 with his maximum $1000 hidden... It would go straight to $1000 if reserve was higher...
  7. Went from $1 to $1000, great bidding skills... It's gunna be worth exactly where the bidding ends... NZ new but not factory manual it seems?
  8. No worries at all, enjoying releasing all its history... Yes the towbar does have a harness with the module thingy. Today I got rid of all the tar spotting, hard to pick on this colour and gave it a good wash. Tomorrow the lip deflectors in front of the rear wheel arches go on, plus more underbody cleaning.
  9. Changed the fuel filter on my e39, installed a new brake pad wear sensor front left, put on my final refurbished wheel, new centre cap emblems with them as well as locknut caps and M valve caps, put painted tow bar back on, All cleaning as I go, car is getting lighter with every underbody panel that comes off and goes back on.... Someones driveway needs returning . Next up is sump gasket. A job for the mechanic and hoist...
  10. Welcome aboard, have fun, I know you will as I've just been through your job list...
  11. Great Photos, I must try harder. That's the Tauranga 540 on trademe a while ago? I had a good look at that one.
  12. Cool yes, 7th August, I'll have my people clear my calendar.
  13. I've finally posted up some photos in the Gallery under "hqstu". Car is mobile again after finishing; VANOS, Waterpump, Thermostat, Spark plugs, Valve cover gasket, CCV, DISA, damn good clean as I go... Also fitted new front door seals, badge, more cleaning, wheel painting, wheel liners out to clean, still going on with stuff, be he's running, and running very well.
  14. Hi All, Sorry if this has been discussed before but a quick search didn't really show up anything... Head under the hood this weekend doing Waterpump, thermostat, vanos seals, valve cover gaskets when it dawned on me that this car (and my previous 530i M54 - both NZ new) don't have the post cat oxygen sensors. The connectors on the top of the engine go nowhere... Can anyone explain? I'm guessing BMW NZ deleted them as not required under our (then) emission rules? What was done to the engine management to cater? Cheers, Stuart.
  15. Enjoy your E39! They're great cars to work on...
  16. It's an E39, sorry no pictures yet as it hasn't moved from the garage since I got home. Need to do water pump and thermostat and while I'm there I'll do VANOS and valve cover gasket I suppose. Been busy dealing with a lot of watermarking on glass and body as well as making plans to replace a few more bits. Each wheel has curb rash and one off at a time to sort that. Suspect the vapour barriers in doors are dodgy, especially rear ones, and need to check out left front window as it doesn't auto up, someone may have been in there fiddling with connectors... But he's looking a lot better since first arriving - been busy...
  17. schmiedmann.com seem quite good with reasonable shipping charges.. Ordered parts on Thursday. Here the following Tuesday even after paying the GST to DHL.
  18. Anyone know what happened with this one? Nice looking one in Tauranga as well on TM.
  19. Yes Photos - when he's worthy and when I learn how...
  20. Hi All, First post, joined in 2012 with an 03 530 motorsport titansilber but now have just picked up TopasBlau 03 motorsport. Was looking for a v8 but couldn't go past this one at the price. A few new parts are streaming in from the US and Europe. Done the CCV and DISA, a damn good clean, painting wheels, got a waterpump and thermostat to do, the valve cover gasket needs doing and I may do the Vanos O-rings at the same time. Underbody spoiler shields are missing (Geez they're expensive..) and a fair bit of watermarking to deal with. Apart from that - he's perfect.... Look forward to learning a bit of stuff and sharing a bit of knowledge on here... I'm also on bimmerfest. Cheers Stuart.
