  1. Yes there are bargains to be had at times locally. I bought an e39 front spoiler/wheel arch shield that lists for US300 (in US) and EUR190 (in Europe) for NZ$115 off CJBMW. The parts manager even took a quick photo of the screen in case it "vanished.."
  2. Dealer $90-95 ish. Dealers very clever at pricing some parts including these not too far away from European prices once you incl shipping and GST and $50 import fee if you getting stuff in over about NZ$400. Yes US shipping is heavy, as are the parts prices as US suppliers have already loaded up the price to get them from Europe to US. Go Europe... Schm.
  3. Is it the case only 24 e39 m5's were sold NZ new, as a comment on the ad suggests? Thought it may have been higher. Know of 4 or 5 in the Tron alone?
  4. Timing is everything, 12 months ago this would have been mine, weeks ago... if that makes sense
  5. I got one recently from CoombesJ BMW for e39 530, $371, and just had to synch it in. I believe also they can delete all previous/lost/misplaced keys from the car "systems" so it can't be started..? Need to get a second key for M5 now... clutch first...
  6. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1348042416 Seen this one about a couple of times, appears very very nice. Think the owner was/is on this group? Good colour too...
  7. Rear brake pads on e39 530, as well as replaced windscreen washer hoses. Also cleaned right rear wheel and wheel arch etc. on the M5, fixing up loose deflector just ahead of the wheel underside. And got radar detector LED working after it was shorted to itself, can't work out whatever installer was thinking... 530 ready for roadie tomorrow to Auckland coffee meetup...
  8. What a great roadie, that's a fantastic bit of tarmac for our ultimate machines. I had as much fun as a slightly dodgy clutch would allow... Had a comfy trip home up north, rain/low cloud/fog from half way to Taupo onwards... M5 all washed and tucked away. It was great to meet you all. Cheers.
  9. The movie "The Castle" springs to mind... but no doubt a lovely car at the right price...
  10. Yes I will pull column cover off to fix LED. No remote mute button unless it is very remote...
  11. Thanks Olaf, yes that's the one, the radar antenna and laser sensor are either side of number plate, but I don't think I have a rear sensor. It was throwing a calibration error for quite a while when it switched on but lately it has been OK. Thanks for the manual. Need to switch off the annoying band, K? There is also a LED on top of the steering column but appears not to be working. I did adjust the column when I first got it and heard a bit of a crack so must investigate...
  12. My e39 came with an older Escort passport SR7 with detectors down near number plate. How would these ones perform these days. I need to learn how to use it...
  13. Yeah, now that is the sh*t... so many beema's, so little garage...
  14. Have any of you seen this site in the States and asking prices: http://enthusiastauto.com/ Wonder what the sale prices are...? Low mileage cars but crikey....!
  15. I've seen plenty of imported cars with the cloth trim / plain wheel spec.
  16. I have used "Get Electronic" in Chch in the past, and also "The Circuit Specialist" in Auckland.
  17. Over the weekend lifted up M5, removed left front wheel, underbody trays, broken left under spoiler shield and left front wheel liner. Next 4 hours cleaning... Then oil and filter change and put it all back together with new under spoiler shield. Next the windscreen trim and cowl replacement and then right side front wheel arch etc... (maybe get to this before smales farm outing...) Feels good knowing one has dealt to years of built up crud under there...
  18. Looks like it needs some much needed love... give it to me for a week... I think the theme is and take it from me/us - you will have to spend coin on these things... but you won't mind doing so...
  19. Bang on as above. Bought my 2003 M5 in December in the low 20's and have committed to about $6-7k in first year on a preventative/restorative maintenance programme. Buy on history and condition. Give the clutch a good test, load it up in 3rd or 4th gear at speed. Parts are reasonable if you source them yourself, not through BMW. But whatever - just buy it... your wallet may bleat a bit, but you wont...
  20. I like my Holden's as well but get a load of this interesting approach to marketing.... http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1280962554
