Except my car's parked in an underground car park most of the time

Was feeling a bit jet lagged so took a couple of hours off work this afternoon. Did some therapeutic work on the car by replacing all 8 ignition coils and a couple of bulbs from the instrument cluster to make myself feel better. WOF due next week and car seems in tip top condition now... Fingers crossed.

Shite pic, sorry, but saw this F12 M6 on Ponsonby Rd yesterday. Really like these cars but not that fond of this colour.

Found a (white) 25 amp fuse underneath the battery in my E39 when I recharged it. According to the manual the only 25 amp fuse in the trunk fuse bay is for the M5 fuel pump (and therefore absent in my 540). Any ideas what this might have been from or is it just coincidence that it was dropped by the fuse bay?

Back at work today after 4 weeks away. Totally forgot to disconnect the battery before I left so the beast is as dead as a dodo. Tried jumping but even that didn't provide enough juice to get her going so the battery's gone off for a charge. Slightly annoying that so much stuff 'goes on' when the car is off but I did know what to expect and should have disconnected the battery. Nevermind. In better news I had a box of lovely brand new ignition coils waiting for me when I got back so will get those in at the weekend.

Sh*t I say about my E39? 'How much??' 'F*ck it, you're worth it!'

Yep. Agree with Tristan. Don't use plastidip on interior parts. The finish doesn't feel great or look that good on close inspection. Vinyl wrap definitely the way to go for a consistent black gloss finish. Textured vinyls are generally a bit nasty but you can get some nice ones that aren't flat colour which may look a bit better on a black trim piece.

Lucky him/her! The E46 love affair didn't last long then, though I'm sure I'd drive an E92 M3 given half a chance!! Well done.Definitely be careful with tune and exhaust mods - I've held back on certain mods on my 540i to avoid voiding warranty - at least until I'm reasonably confident nothing catastrophic's going to happen to the engine.

Beautiful car! Jealous.
-
Very nice. What have you done with the E46?

I agree and have said it before on here I think. More likely Mazda has borrowed from Audi as the new 6 and the M4 bear striking resemblance to the RS5.The M4 is the pick of the bunch looks-wise IMO though. EDIT: It's a motorway from London to Wales... If that doesn't sound sport/luxury, I don't know what does!

26 hours work for Ray's team in the end but he did a good deal since it was the first time they'd done an M62tu double vanos. Engine now running a full 10-15° cooler than before with the new thermostat went in.Didn't require new timing chain guide rails (and I think Ray wanted to ease the pain of the bill a little bit) but did replace the PCV valve. Cold start issues seem almost completely gone, only thing it still does is still require a bit of revving if it's been really cold, not sure the cause but have some coils on the way so won't worry about it until those are in. Only been able to drive it a couple of times before heading away on holiday but very very happy and reckon the engine's in ship shape for the Stage 2 Dinan tune and trans s/w upgrade I'm going to do in the next few months. Now to enjoy a few weeks off without worrying about the bloody car!!!

Bought a replacement LCD screen and it came with the ribbon attached. Most of the DIYs are for non-bond ribbons but this one seems to have a yellow adhesive strip. It's not sticky and has no removable backing nor does it seem to respond to heat. Anyone know how to activate the adhesive or is it not glue at all? EDIT: Alright, so I think I need a T-tip for a soldering iron.... Hmmnn. Might have to wait a while.

I've got some unused gloss carbon wrap... You can have it if you want. Think it's about 0.6m x 1.5m. More than enough to do trim - not enough for a roof though.

Dinan asked if you could recheck the transmission part number as the one you sent in the pics wasn't consistent with the numbers they expected, so they're not 100% the chip will be compatible. Engine one is fine. I've already ordered my bits and pieces but can easily add yours to the order. I'll PM my email address as it's probably easiest to get me on there.Cheers Jooles

Andy, do you still want the Dinan chips? Messaged you about it but didn't hear back.

It's not easy to tell what other members are like so it's useful when they identify themselves as being utter twits so we don't have to have anything to do with them. Life's too short to waste on f*ckwits.

Was planning to then budget started getting a bit tight so only bought a new timing guide chain tensioner (as per Beisan instructions). If Ray finds anything nasty I've given the green light to fix unless we're talking mortgage amounts. Will provide a good write up of how it feels post surgery and hoping Ray can take a few snaps while she's in pieces.

Bugger. Is Dunners on the list for UFB or is it just Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch?A friend of mine from L.A. recently moved to Matakana just north of Auckland, he was horrified when he found out it would be at least a couple of years before they can even get broadband, let alone UFB. His choices are dial up, satellite, wait for 2 years or pay for the broadband cabling himself (tens of thousands of $$$s).

Fingers crossed.

We rarely watch terrestrial TV so fibre's great for use with AppleTV etc. Biggest thing for us as we have a lot of family overseas was a decent upload speed for video calls. Was always rubbish quality on 1mb/s up now it's perfect. We pay the same as Chris, $135 unlimited including calls to anywhere in NZ and Aus. Install at our place was free too but wouldn't have cost them much as no digging required and the house is less than 5m from the box on the street. Orcon was the only provider that offered it immediately though. Telecom and Vodafone you had to register your interest and wait.

According to UK M5 boards it's in the right hand luggage compartment. http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1pyv7/BMW...sources/476.htm

With my lack of basic knowledge when it comes to engines I'd probably take it to someone like Glenn or to Ross at BM Workshop and get them to drive it and try and reproduce the issue. It may be something they've come across before but really hard to diagnose without driving I'd imagine.
