  1. If that's a manual - I'll take one! Assuming it's not.
  2. A Variant was our family car (same colour exactly) when I was a kid. Had it from mid 70s to early 80s then we 'upgraded' to a white Mk II Escort s/w.
  3. Was going to look tomorrow but the seller has just rung me to say it's already sold.... So which lucky bugger bought it?

    Stance?

Think it's because many of us on here couldn't afford one when it left the factory, so we wait to get one when it's cheap and peel of all the shitty modifications that have been made since it left the factory that made it cheap enough for us to afford. That said, there's nothing wrong with awesome modifications that make it go faster and stuff!
  5. I've found that shipping from European sources (particularly the UK) is generally a lot cheaper than from the US. If your package is worth more than NZ$400 you may get hit for import duty when the package gets to NZ.
  6. It's sunny in Ponsonby, mate.... Always is, that's why house prices are so high.
  7. I demand a driveby so I can hear it!
  8. Yep, looks good. Will be suitably envious of whomever get the keys to that beauty.
  9. Who needs reverse when you get an M62TU for $4K
  10. I just thought you were acknowledging a fellow bimmersporter.
  11. Martin beat you to this story: http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....st&p=499682
  12. Didn't keep the car long enough to be able to comment, sorry.EDIT: If the AXXIS pads work well on Darren's M5 with low dust. I'd say go with those.
  13. I put Posi Quiet pads on my old 528i. I thought they were pretty good. Virtually zero dust - went from weekly wheel cleaning with OE pads to cursory wash and wipe every couple of months! Don't think performance was quite as good as OE though, I guess you're always going to sacrifice a bit of bite to save on dust but they were certainly acceptable and safe for normal driving conditions. Wouldn't put them on a car if you're pushing it though.
  14. I don't know too much about tyres (other than I'd really like to get shot of the Champiros on my rear wheels but they were brand new when I bought the wheels and I can't justify $3-400 per tyre at the moment) but would like some advice on a set of tyres a spare set of wheels I've picked up. Bought the second set cheaply to throw on for the add track day and to throw in if the car's in the shop for any reason to protect my RSIIs, but not sure what would be a good vs affordable tyre for that. My track time is for fun rather than competitive times so just want something that will grip okay in wet or dry, will be fine on the road to get me to and from the track, will last a while and doesn't cost the earth. An all rounder. Sounds like the perfect tyre, right? 235/40/17
  15. Nothing worse than being towed by goths, they get eyeliner all over your paintwork. There's a traffic warden who drives up and down Great North Road from the Ponsonby Road Junction through to Grey Lynn ticketing and towing everything and anything in the way from 4-6pm. For future reference the other side of the road is fine in the afternoon and is only a clearway in the morning.
  16. Best to check genuine consumption... The OBC is not always accurate. I found in my 528i that actual consumption was better than that stated by the OBC - particularly when using quality fuel (98).
  17. Looks like a big improvement. Nice work.

    Storage

Not that easy with no tow bar EDIT: And a trailer would be a f*cking nightmare to get in and out of our work car park... That's if it fitted in the first place. Pretty low clearance, I couldn't fit a minivan down there when I moved into the office.

    Storage

Anyone know where I can get a decent (and large) storage box? I don't have a garage at home but have five parking spaces underground at work. Don't think anyone would mind if I used one for a storage box for tools, etc, as long as it's not too ugly. Ideally one that opens top and front (seen some good ones in Europe for pool storage but don't know where to get them here). Needs lockable and be big enough for hydraulic jack, jack stands, a few tools and a spare set of wheels... And some other junk. Suggestions appreciated and preferably under $300. Thanks in advance.
  20. My E39 528i was much of a muchness, in slow moving traffic would rarely be under 15L/100 and often higher but great on the open road (8-9L/100). I fixed just about everything I could except the Vanos seals. Ray's (HellBM) has just done double Vanos procedure on my 540i and the difference in fuel consumption is night and day. It was sucking down fuel at 20-25L/100 when driving short distances from cold and rarely managing better than 15L/100 on the open road. It's no getting 15-18L/100 around town and around 9-10L/100 on longer trips. Vanos procedure isn't cheap though unless you do it yourself so I'd definitely rule out other options first through scan and smoke test, etc.
  21. I've had two black ones.... Runner up on the douche scoreboard.
  22. Bought a set of 17" style 65s for $300 with tyres. Pick them up today. Will get them balanced and use them as a spare set to keep my RSIIs in mint condition. Might do some skids.
  23. Bet his missus would be over the moon if he came home with that one. Understated.
  24. Nah, it's easy - they just won't pay out much if anything goes wrong! Mine's done nearly 180,000kms and has a 3 year warranty but maximum single payout is $2.5K, so if the trans goes or I blow a head gasket it won't cover it.
