As mentioned in another thread - Will be getting a tune done through Evolve Automotive in the UK soon. Just a simple power tune for now. Will be running the Alpha-N tune at a later stage.
-
That won't be 388BHP at the wheels, it will be a calculated result for power at the crank. Evolve seem to measure power this way on their dynos.

vehicle valuation service in akl.

Cheers, that looks like a local number to me too, will give em a call. -
Want to get an agreed insurance value on the M5 but need a valuation done. Can anyone recommend a good company in akl for this?

Bugger! I just bought a 93 impreza wagon as a run about. Would've bought it in a heart beat for 1k and spent the rest of my budget fixing it up.

Though your comments are valid, it's like saying your new internal combustion engine car is more detached than the horse that used to pull the old one. There are still many people out there who prefer the likes of a manual transmission, and no magic buttons that adjust the suspension and steering response when it comes to a performance car.

Spent 9 or so mins in an F10 M5 at the Nordeschleif in October 2012 - far from boring!! :-)
-
Hi Velocity will be back in action in around 3 weeks according to a reliable source...
-
There may also be more serious problems lurking within this M5. We only started the engine, rev'd it lightly, heard the clak clak clak and ran away from it. If just the rod bearings need replacing, then 15k is a fair price imo. if it were me buying it, i'd take the engine out, do the rod bearings, chain guides, vanos seals, clutch gaskets etc and the motor will be good for another 200k.

Would a warranty cover conrod bearings, which are technically a wear and tear item though...

Sweet only 2 pages of crap to sift through...

Be careful with dyno's. You need optimal IAT and KTMP temperatures amongst other things to show the true output of teh S62 on a dyno. A tuner may take the lowest power output run pre-tune, and take the highest output run post tune, and lead you to believe you've gained 40rwkw. The Evolve guys in the UK are highly regarded for not doing this, and everyone seems to be happy with the results, in particular the Alpha-N power tune. I've contemplated going via Gavin, but am leaning towards Evolve as they have a deal on atm - Just a pain that they make you pay 200usd for their special cable, which i'm pretty sure I already have to do diagnostics and coding.

Tempting... Evolve Tune on special : http://www.evolvetuning.us/bmw/5-series/bmw-m5-e39-98-03/engine-c453/ecu-c646.html

Probably gonna end up in the burns unit for this one, but how about a vtec engine? something like a k20 from the last gen integra or s2000. possibilities to go FI with it too. or even the b series engine fab'd for rwd config. Or a 4g63t. Very popular and easy engine for making power, but maybe not so much for originality factor.

Cool. You notice any improvements in power delivery with a new fuel pump? have read that they can rob low end torque if they're on the blink.
-
Fuel pump died?

e39 steering rack and other repairs - is this reasonable?

Must be a pretty darn good power steering flush through for that quoted price. -
Did New Zealand get any black 1M's?
BreakMyWindow replied to Golfboy666GTI's topic in General Discussion
We had a little traffic light grand prix once, and to my surprise my boat bet him. The PWR of the 1m vs the e39 m5 would suggest that 1m should get the M5 off the line. So I guess he didn't launch very well.. -

Yup a chap who was not well versed in manual launching had a black 1m... -
Looks at home there.

Rod bearings is actually not too hard, there is just a subframe, upper and lower oil pans in the way. Labour would be costly though...
-
In the front pass. footwell? If so, you'll need to start removing trim pieces to try and find where it starts coming in. Have heard the rear door vapours are a common issue, but for the front it's got to be a door seal, or a missing gromet.
-
Agreed, you can quieten them down with new diaphragm springs. The vanos on this one is grumbly. It's the clanking sound when you rev it to around 2 - 3k rpm which is alarming.
-
Deep pitched metallic rattle more pronounced around the sump area. To me sounds like con rod bearings.
