  1. Sweet only 2 pages of crap to sift through...
  2. Be careful with dyno's. You need optimal IAT and KTMP temperatures amongst other things to show the true output of teh S62 on a dyno. A tuner may take the lowest power output run pre-tune, and take the highest output run post tune, and lead you to believe you've gained 40rwkw. The Evolve guys in the UK are highly regarded for not doing this, and everyone seems to be happy with the results, in particular the Alpha-N power tune. I've contemplated going via Gavin, but am leaning towards Evolve as they have a deal on atm - Just a pain that they make you pay 200usd for their special cable, which i'm pretty sure I already have to do diagnostics and coding.
  3. Tempting... Evolve Tune on special : http://www.evolvetuning.us/bmw/5-series/bmw-m5-e39-98-03/engine-c453/ecu-c646.html
  4. Probably gonna end up in the burns unit for this one, but how about a vtec engine? something like a k20 from the last gen integra or s2000. possibilities to go FI with it too. or even the b series engine fab'd for rwd config. Or a 4g63t. Very popular and easy engine for making power, but maybe not so much for originality factor.
  5. Cool. You notice any improvements in power delivery with a new fuel pump? have read that they can rob low end torque if they're on the blink.
  6. Must be a pretty darn good power steering flush through for that quoted price.
  7. We had a little traffic light grand prix once, and to my surprise my boat bet him. The PWR of the 1m vs the e39 m5 would suggest that 1m should get the M5 off the line. So I guess he didn't launch very well..
  8. Yup a chap who was not well versed in manual launching had a black 1m...
  9. Rod bearings is actually not too hard, there is just a subframe, upper and lower oil pans in the way. Labour would be costly though...
  10. In the front pass. footwell? If so, you'll need to start removing trim pieces to try and find where it starts coming in. Have heard the rear door vapours are a common issue, but for the front it's got to be a door seal, or a missing gromet.
  11. Agreed, you can quieten them down with new diaphragm springs. The vanos on this one is grumbly. It's the clanking sound when you rev it to around 2 - 3k rpm which is alarming.
  12. Deep pitched metallic rattle more pronounced around the sump area. To me sounds like con rod bearings.
  13. Nah that one was a different one, had higher kms. The one linked in this thread is actually a 2000 model.
  14. garaged or just on the side of the road?
  15. what's your budget? Makita angle grinders are decent and not too expensive.
  16. Looks like a good fixer upper. 5w40 is not the proper grade for the early s62's. Maybe the excessive oil consumption has scared the owner in to selling?
  17. Unless the engine is running overly rich at idle, I don't see why an engine that has idled for many hours in it's life is particularly bad... This just sounds like an internet myth.
  18. Will be giving this a go.
  19. Coming along nicely!
  20. Wow might have to give the old gaming rig a make over and buy another g27. Project cars looks epic!
  21. Run a scan on that e65. Every single module. Clear any codes, see what comes back after operating every single electronic device. Then make your decision.
  22. Has the M88 in it from the factory - that's all that matters!
