@elias I bought the alternative front shaft and e36 rear shaft, he wants $550 for the whole thing. Not sure what it’s from, front half is 5mm longer than the 328i one but there is enough room left on the spline so in theory it should work fine. Will find out soon enough 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Toast after a late m20 starter in good nick if you’ve got one?

    Cheers

Hey mate I do have a late model m20 starter, and I dug out the diff this weekend, it's a 3.64 ratio if that's any use to you, still has the tag on it which made it easy to identify. I'm uncertain what cores work with what ratios as there's different spacing depending? @thorburn should be able to set you straight on what fits what

Roland Rock has the driveshafts for about 750 from memory. Or an alternative front half shaft/e36 rear half combo for a bit less

Feel free to sell me that starter motor when you’re ready 😁

I'll check on the weekend, there's no tag on it FYI @elias and it's not on hand to spin inputs and count outputs.

@mystery39 I've got starter motors too - what are you after? I've got M20 early and late, and E36 ones. Send me a Pm

Mine also does this. Figured it was because it was a high performance machine lol.

I have wondered if it's just the cams and that i'm being overly paranoid, going to check valve clearances before going any further, seeing as it's done 320k km it's probably well past due

Also, never diagnose startup or idle issues until the SAP has done its thing, it creates all sort of bumps, lumps, and noises during warm up.

Yeah this is all while at a good running temp, the SAP does it's thing when it's cold. I'll do some servicing and take you up on the scan offer once I've done some diligence

What's the issue and what diagnostics have been undertaken to date?

sounds like a slight misfire every 10 seconds of idle, hasn't done it in the past, only at idle. Runs well, all coil packs test good, new spark plugs, BMWorkshop said nothing was amiss but commented that it's not a model they deal with regularly (then it was stored for 3 years). Back on the road again last week and after some new fuel, oil change and an Italian tune it seems to be mint other than this. Not sure if it's an "issue" or if I'm imagining things. Might pay to get the injectors flowed and cleaned?

  5. I need someone who's in the know to give me their honest opinion on an issue i've got at idle, it's persistant and BMWorkshop haven't been able to diagnose it. Preferably someone who's owned a S50 series motor could chime in, maybe come for a drive and give an opinion? Cheers

  6. Looking to pick the brains of people who might know some details of this motor. I've trying to find information regarding a block I have. There's no stamp on the typical spot on the block, are there any other known locations for identification stamps?

Hmm, appears these items truly are like rocking horse sh*te...

Looks like DIY to the rescue!!!

I’ve got the intake boot but it’s in average nick, still seals but obviously it’s a 20+ yo used part.
I also have the ceramic spacers but you’d probably be better off buying off eBay as I’m rather fond of them
