How long had yours been shuddering for before you serviced it?

About a couple of weeks. It progressively gets worse.

As this gearbox is in around a dozen other cars including some American stuff there are a few fixes online.

One is a product called Dr Tranny's Shudder Stop. After a proper service and this I have not had it shudder again in around 40-50k.

  2. Changed the Rotors and Pads and all the small brake bits on my 130 on the weekend.
Was the easiest and smoothest brake change I have ever done.
It makes such a difference when the person who last did something on your vehicle did it correctly with the correct tools and the right amount of care.
So thanks to @GorGasm for either doing this right or having had someone capable of doing it.

Also those brakes lasted 70K which is amazing.
Febi Bilstein pads and rotors came off.  Brembo pads and rotors went on.

    Sold for $13000 in 2019.

Been relisted a few times since.

And it's back. For $95000, down from $100k (apparently).

Check out the dealer that is selling it.
Buy sh*t car.  Clean it.  List it for silly price.  Wait for muppet to buy it.  Repeat.
    Obviously works quite well.

Example:  10K for a 86 Corolla.  And we are not talking anything you would actually want.

  4. You will be fighting every BMW parts dealer in NZ unless they deem it too expensive.
Why do you want a damaged one?  To fit a lower budget?
Damaged imports are tagged as damaged and these days take a huge amount of effort to get them complied.  You are also liable for any issues for many years (7? I don't remember).

If you are after the parts cars I would look at Copart in the USA.  But the recent Youtubers rebuilding crashed cars thing has really changed the cost of everything over the last few years.  I did see a 2019 M2 go for $15K USD that was complete and still driving.  Moderate frontal damage.

  5. Yours is the CCC iDrive.  So it is compatible with the system you linked.
I think there is someone on here who has this system.  And a few others that are running replacement Android based screens.
Make sure your screen is in good condition though.  If it is dim or blurry you will be better off replacing it with something like this.
    https://www.audiocity.co.nz/car-stereos-headunits/bmw-1-series-e81-e87-ccc-android-system-upgrade-with-touch-screen-apple-carplay-android-auto-gps-google-map-bluetooth-2.html

There are many clones of these systems.  Not all are the same.  Many have dated processors and limited RAM.

One thing I do not like about audiocity is that they don't advertise what CPU and RAM the units have.  They could be ancient.

Seems in NZ E28, E24 and E23 aren't just as hot as E30's. I guess it's good for generic enthusiasts. In ther other hand I wondered without the infated price tag is the reason why ftermarket/remanufactured/custom parts support aren't as good as E30s.

It was. 10 to 15 years ago when they were cheap. Hence things like the E30 race series was able to be run.

  7. I don't think that comes in bulk packs here.

Penrite 10tenths comes in 20l packs.

Even as a sponsor Castrol gave us next to no discount. Greater savings waiting for supercheap auto specials.

I've moved away from Castrol due to their bottle sizes. Penrite comes in 5,6,7,10,20L.

  8. Brake pads for spirited driving?

I usually go with ATE rotors and pads but the exchange rate and shipping is a joke right now.

So I got a deal on Brembo fronts and techstop rears from Exedy.

What street pads would you throw at them if it was your choice. These I don't mind ordering from overseas.

  9. Yup. Building up some patience to attempt it once again on the wife's S13. After drilling holes all through the floor to add driveshaft hoops, seat mounts, belt mounts. Removing suspension that isn't branded even though it's superior quality to the sh*t that does pass. Standard brakes that the certifier doesn't like the feel of..

Its got to be designed so you give up right?

  10. BTW it actually has active map moderators for NZ.  You can make edits via the web browser log in.
And you can mark things via voice.  e.g. Hey Google report Police, or report pothole etc etc.
