This "trend" has been going for quite a while now. The Honda boys have been all over it for at least a year.

Maybe PJ is the first Euro to do it but it certainly is not new, all you have to do is look through the various "post your favourite... thread" on this forum.

PJ: Not having a dig at you in any way - I think it is a big improvement on the washy bronzy gold colour of the Drifteks

Get my Cert on Friday, Just to get this straight since my spacers are 15mm i dont have to bolt them onto my hubs using counter grub screws ? but just have longer bolts increased by the spacer length ? Cheeeers

You will have to make sure the spacers are hubcentric on both your hubs and whels and they will have to be attached in some way.

Can you please double check your sizes?

In your other post which I have answered you have put down different sizes again. The correct size tyres for your car are 245/40R19 on the front and 275/35R19 on the rear.

I am also not quite sure how your car can be a "fresh import" as I am pretty sure the emissions laws stopped these cars from coming in quite some time ago?

Hey just noticed that the tyres have some fine cracks (perishing) between the tread.

Just a question - should that have passed a WOF?

I just bought the car - fresh import

It has low profiles 275 x 35 x 19's on the back

and 245 x 30 x 19's on the front

The tyres have quite a bit of tread on them - and i am sure they will not be cheap to replace. Just wondering if i should go back to the yard and demand they replace them.

The dealer may have bought those wheels 2nd hand and put them on to try and dress the car up a little. It looks like they have the wrong size tyres on them. Unfortunately I don't think you will have much luck with the car yard. Your car should have 245/40R19 on the front and 275/35R19 on the rear. I see from your pic that they are a completely different size, so you should look at the getting the correct sizes sooner rather than later.

Welcome along BTW... I also have a 735 (and in silver). Tyres are not overly expensive when you take into account the other costs usually associated with owning a 7 series. Let me know when you need tyres.

They need to be a hubcentric set specific for your car - try not to go over 5mm as they can be un-warrantable or even dangerous.

ALL spacers are unwarrantable. ANY spacer needs to be hubcemtric on both the hub and the wheel and MUST be certified to be road legal. Wheel studs must also have a certain amount of thread in them.

Try having the same thing happen on a Sunday afternoon but repalce "Cielo" with BUS! It happened to me on Great South Rd in Greenlane just south of Market Road. The bus tried to undertake and when he saw there was car parked in front he just pulled out and almost took me out!

I have recently got a new set of rims for my E46 M3 but i want to bump out the rears a little as they are sitting inside the guard too much.

Is there any euro shop that would have spacers for my car in auckland that i could test out whats the best size to get?

I know about all the legalities of spacers

Did you get the correct offset for the rears? You do know that the rears use a 5 series offset and the fronts use a 3 series offset. Did yiou buy the rims new?

A bit of a thread dig but we have compared these against OEm wheels. it seems the OEM are milled out more in the centre of the wheels where as ours are not. This is where the majority of the weight difference is, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

The range is between ET35 & ET41

This is the closest to being correct. Depending on the width you can run anything from a +30 to a +45 using the correct size tyre.

All these other cars that all younger members seem to drool over probably wouldn't get a warrant here in NZ. Tyres the wrong size, car too low etc. Not to mention massive amounts of custom guard work.

In our business the consumer is defitnitely going to be the winner. We have pricepoints which we target. For example a tyre at $199 incl. We can't simply add the extra GST to make it $203.40 as it just doesn't work. We could put it up to $209 but then we will probably miss sales as our competitors will be charging $199.

We will have to wear the additional cost so over 100 tyres we lose $350 profit. Multiply this by the fact that we sell over 5000 tyres a year and that is over $15000!

Ok I'm pretty new to wheels and tyres and all but I've got a fair idea of it.

Would something like this suit/sound plausible?

Front: 18x8.5 w/ 1.25" lip

Rear: 18x9.5 w/ 3.0" lip

Would that look silly or do you think it would be all good?

The wheels I'm looking at are the Beyern Type Mesh - I've got no idea of the cost of these but yeah looking for something like that.

Alternately, the Petrol Vengeance wheel.

Front: 18x8 w/ 1" lip

Rear: 18x9.5 w/ 2.5" lip

You are on to it set up wise.

19"s are the max you can run on these cars without upsetting the speedo and produce an false reading.

This is incorrect

You can run 20's without upsetting the speedo and it does not produce false readings. The tyre however is a licorice strap (30 series)!, Personally, I think 20's are too big on these cars for NZ roads.

I presume you meant to say you are running a 275/30/19 as this is correct size, the 35 series in that size is more suited to E38 7 series.

The maximum I would run on the front is a 9" wide wheel.

Tristan, I will have a look and see what we have for you.

You need a higher offset for 5 series. ET40 is a 3 series offset.

Others will chime in here but I think you need around ET25.

You are sort of correct, the lower the offset the further out they sit. 3 series run high offset and 5 series run low offset.

Some might disagree with me but I think if your going to bother with aftermarket I'd go with 18" as minimum and 19" being idea and maybe 20" if they are the right kind of wheels. But thats just me and depends on the look you are going for.
