  1. Cheers Jared, I`ve just been checking my e39 for `Crappy Plastics`and can`t find any, I`ll ring the previous owner and ask him what`s going on.I don`t want to miss out on anything.
  2. Mojo...I thought the ad for the green 540 said $9500 buy now ?
  3. No mate, I haven`t punted $30,000 that I don`t have on one of the world`s fastest VW`s...but I still think keyboards should have some sort of breathyliser on them to stop those sorts of things happening. I even have desktop icons to Porsche sites... I have got You tube vids of old 911`s giving it the full jandal around the Nurbergring, complete with screaming noises in German accents... One day I`m gonna get a scale model of a 911 for the bookshelf.. I guess we all need a hobby...
  4. There`ll be buildings coming down in the main street sometime. It took about 6-9 months for the asessments after the earthquake I think, we were all shocked to hear it as we thought Rangiora had missed it all. Great spot though. One of my Sunday drives is out to Rangiora. I get a cup at Coffee Culture and a Pizza from Victoria Street Seafood and Pizza then bring it home. Brilliant place.. By the way Ron, I thought the only people driving Hummers in ChCh were EQC Staff , they like to keep safe while we throw rocks at them ..
  5. Mojo old son...you have got to pull that trigger. The rest of us can`t stand the suspense. The green one is a great looking car except for the wheels. He`s asking e39 money, but maybe the e34`s are getting collectable ? Blue will know more about that, I know I always fancied one when I had my 535. PS; Don`t worry about whether the babes will go for it or not...rely on that far north charm and hit that button. I find it`s easier to buy on Trademe after a few fizzy ones, you will get the congratulatory message in your inbox the next morning in case you`ve forgotten what you`ve done......... IE: sh*t...I`ve bought a Porsche !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. And another thing about mucking around on tardme. My car had the 16 inch turbine mags that they were sold with new. When the lads at Victoria Street motors did my first warrant they let me know that `Ahem Jonesey...the tyres are marginal..please replace them before next warrant...or sooner. `. So I went looking on tard me for 17 inch M Sport Wheels And tyres. Found a guy in Napier selling a set with tyres that had done 5000 k`s. They were off his 540. He wanted $500 , I couldn`t believe it. A guy from Auckland was on the listing pestering the seller for free freight. I`m in the freight business so I hit `Buy now` . I figured the tyres were worth $500 When the wheels arrived at work I had a double take when I saw the BMW stamp on the inside of the wheels, I thought they may have been rep`s. They weren`t... the seller was a good guy.
  7. Excellent mate. I don`t know how to upload photos of the beast in question. I`ve had an e30 320 and an e34 535 previously. My e39 was a Dad buy then passed to his son . Always a family car, so the back seats were worn as well as the front. Had a mate in Auckland check it out. It was smoking, needed a rocker cover gasket. I had the oil filter housing gasket done as well. Got a new battery after it played up during the first couple of weeks. Got the leather done by fibrenew in chch. Put new discs and ceramic pads on the front( Try ceramic pads mate..no brake dust and $100 dollars for the pair ) Good servicing history, cooling system all done. Best car I`ve ever had, and I owned my 535 for 8 years. The good news is that online forums tend to be about the bad stories..people that love their cars keep a low profile. That`s why I really enjoy this website, everyone loves the brand. Buy a used BMW after doing you homework, and then budget maybe $1500 to tidy it up a bit. Then you`ve got the ultimate driving machine. And keep looking after it.
  8. I`m not joking, that body kit won`t work on Ch Ch roads right now.
  9. Mojo...you need to pull the trigger...just go and buy, and buy, ....well a BMW 328 really...That was the start of the thread I reckon. Then let us know how you get on... I bought my NZ new e39 12 months ago off a guy in Auckland by hitting the `buy now `( $3900) button on tardme after a couple (!) of Steinies. It had 2 owners, same family . Got it down to ChCh, got it nicely sorted and now I drive a car that was $112000 new ex Jerry Clayton BMW in 1998, for around $6000 at the moment. And my local mechanic who has looked after it wants to buy it off me. These are magnificent cars, they just need to be looked after. Hit the button brother !!!!!!! Buy one...NOW !
  10. I was in South Africa years ago and they used to market an e34 518. You couldn`t get away from the bad guys too easily in one of those....
  11. http://www.trademe.c...n-682873971.htm It will also have the old 12 valve motor. They`re slow and that`s a heavy car.
  12. The best thing they ever did was bring out the e36 Gullwing V8....Hard to find in this sort of nick as well...
  13. Similar sentiments...Just about to stroll down the local and discuss some of ChCh`s burning issues...like how Bob Parker got a Knighthood ...
  14. I think you have to add 3 to the US Octane figure to match ours. 98 is hard to find, that`s the issue. At the moment I might keep travelling to BP stations to get 98. It is definitely different. Obviously more expensive..
  15. I`m on a liquid only diet this time of the year. I don`t think it`s my foot. And 98 is hard to get. Good experiment though.
  16. For a start, great new thread Andy..but I can`t work out how to upload a photo of the Silver peril. However, I have a general question for the techies on this blog. I have always run the e39 on Shell 95, sometimes whatever Castrol call Techron.. For the last fortnight I have been using BP 98. I swear it`s a different car. Bearing in mind the time of year, have I put weight on, and as a result might be using more right foot, or does 98 make it a wee bit quicker off the mark ? ( Auto NZ new...) Seriously, it`s kicking down around town at the moment..I`m starting to fly over speed humps...
  17. In the mid 80`s I spent time in South Africa and Zimbabwe. I remember being a passenger in a 7 series owned by a tobacco farmer driving around Harrare. I couldn`t get over the way the locals kept looking at the 735 and more particularly, us inside it. I was assured that the windows were bullet proof. I could imagine this being an option on a SA new Bimmer, but not on a NZ new....
  18. Good stuff, Merry Xmas !
  19. You`ve done well Graham..I had my best Xmas eve shop ever today as well. Went down to Life Pharmacy Westfield Mall in ChCh. Pottered around for a while trying to spot stuff for my 3 nieces.. The good news is a lovely Irish girl (Green eyes and all...) came up to me and said `What about gift vouchers Sir ??` I jokingly said `Can you giftwrap them?` and she bloody well did..with ribbons as well. The whole thing took about 20 minutes. PS: There are Irish people all over the place in ChCh right now...fantastic people.
  20. Dont pick on people from Gore...that extra finger makes all the difference on the banjo..
  21. Ceramic brake pads...I`m not joking, it`s a whole new world. Very small amounts of red brake dust which seems to just blow away...bliss.
  22. Yeah I can get the `Rudolph the red nosed reindeer` and `Feed the world ` crap in the Mall music as an opportunity to get out the AK 47...( But luckily in our part of the world they don`t come out very often...) But surely nothing beats the Boss giving us the gee up at the work do... We`re all having a great night, then suddenly everything goes quiet. Then up he ( Or She gets...) `Well it`s been a tough year, but by god you punters at the sharp end on the sh*t salaries are what makes us strong..keep going and let`s do it for the shareholders...`
  23. So let me get my head around this Jordan...your first bimmer...and it just happens to be an e39 in v8 mode. Quite a good start I would say....

    E38 750iL Cruiser

I took my e39 to the ChCh Fibrenew franchise. They had it overnight, and for $400 did the seats for me. My car is NZ new and had a lot of wear in the back as well as the front so an ex family car. Upholstery is a light grey, looks fantastic now. Why do it yourself at that price ??
  25. Don`t like the wheels, not a biggie I guess. I don`t know why, but these sit forever on trade me. There is a red one( ex uk) that is a permanent `for sale`. I had an auto 535 NZ new and these are better cars I guess but nobody wants them any more. Strange..
