  1. Mainfreight...I work for Freightways and we have a strategic alliance with them because we don`t compete. I was gutted when I found out NZ Express got their hands on my car. I figure Captain Transporter got nearly $200 bucks off me for doing nothing. Good luck Mojoe.
  2. Oh No...JUST GOT HOME FROM WORK...just realised I`m trapped in a thread again !!! At least Blue`s here but boy...this is deja vue ( all over again..)
  3. I used Captain Transporter to get my car from North Shore to ChCh. A bit of a test for them ? You bet. They turned up at the vendor`s place without notice, luckily they were home but the battery was flat. The website clearly stated that they would contact the seller to arrange pickup. The vendor rang me at work, he had my money but was annoyed that he couldn`t get the car ready or charge the battery.I thought it might be best to change the delivery to my mechanic in ChCh rather than my place. It took 6 days, and when I rang them in Auckland twice I got the distinct impression they didn`t really know where the car was. On the due day I turned up at Victoria Street motors after work and it wasn`t there. Sure enough they ( NZ Express) had dropped it off at my place. Trouble is, I live in a block of flats, and the silly buggers had rolled it into the wrong park. And it wouldn`t start.I had to take the next morning off to get it towed to Vic motors and check the battery. ( Got a new one ). However the car was filthy so I didnt take it to work. The funny thing was, the lady at Captain Transporter was ok, but it was obvious they were just brokers, at no stage was I told NZ Express were carrying the car. Wouldn`t do it again, I`m in the freight business and I wouldn`t have let the carrying company near my car if I`d known about it.
  4. No...I got them off a guy in Napier through Trade me. They had tyres that had done 5000 k and I needed tyres. I paid $500 bucks for the lot. When I got them I found the BMW stamp on the back and the serial number. Genuine 17 inch M sports with great tyres. The vendor just wanted to sell them. Us E39 owners are good people. PS: They aren`t perfect either, I`ll be getting them refurbished. But they look great and the tyres were worth more than $500
  5. Charles, I had to get one of my wheels bored out. I was getting them fitted and balanced at Scobie tyres and one wouldn`t fit. I couldn`t believe it. They put me onto Thorpe Engineering in Dalgety Street. Wobbled round there with three hot 17 inch M Sport wheels and one 16 inch turbine, wishing I had tinted windows. Long trip... They charged me $30 to bore it to 74.1. Still don`t know what the issue was because they were off an e39 540. Give them a call ?
  6. e39 wheels have 74.1 centre bore, most other BMW wheels are 72.6 ( or something ) I don`t know why this is. I had 16 inch Turbines on mine when I bought it, took a few months to find 17 inch e39 alloys.
  7. I can`t spell applause..time to go..
  8. If it was a 328, someone else we know would be after it...hang on, I don`t believe it.. this is my 100th post ( Ripple of aplause)....
  9. Sorry Blue, my post was in response to Eagle`s post. You`re right, I bought my car nz new, 2 owners same family in Auckland. A mate went around to check it out, it was smoking a bit and the consensus was rocker cover gasket. So what, I paid him what he wanted ( bargain anyway)and got it trucked down to ChCh. Ive got it sorted now, heck of a car, and the vendor got his money before I`d even touched the thing. Remember though, we are talking BMW here. Worth the risk ????
  10. Dead right. The gomers won`t go near the bigger cars. Too hard to see out of.
  11. You gotta realise that most people nowdays have a fair idea of what their car is worth. Years ago dealers had a secret wee book which arrived once a month showing prices for cars all around the country. They`d use the wee book to price tradeins, particularly for cars they were unfamiliar with. And people trading cars had no idea what their cars were actually worth. It was a bit of a lottery, and I was in the business for a while. In my experience, If you like the car buy it. Don`t piss the vendor around by offering 20 % less. If he`s used his brain he has already discounted a bit so he can sell the thing.
  12. Yeah you`re right. I`ve never had a car written off but I didn`t know they could do that. I suppose you lose title to the car I guess. What if you had a sack of oysters in the boot?
  13. Mine needed the repair when I bought it. I went to my mechanic. I do this sort of stuff. I have the bill. $57 bucks for the gasket, $67 bucks for `cam cover bolt rubber seals`, 2 hours labour. Total $305.01. Don`t get me wrong, if you can fix it yourself then that`s awesome. I can`t, but my mechanic is brilliant with Bimmers..
  14. They were regarded as the best car in the world for their entire production run. Unfortunately the motoring press went sour on the E60 that followed. I had an E34 535 before the E39 , and that was a great car, maybe the E39 is a bit smoother ride wise. Good to see you`re ok though Russell..
  15. Years ago ( I know..I know..alright the mid 80`s) I worked at Cooper Hendersons in ChCh on the `Finance side`. One day this older bloke came in and said that he was after a decent Mitsi Mirage for him and his wife.. Obviously we were up to our necks in them, and did our best to get him into one. However he spent most of the day cruising up and down Moorhouse Ave test driving other cars, then bringing them in to us to see what we thought. We had made the fatal mistake of letting him become our friend. Late in the afternoon he turned up in a 280 z jap inport that he had bought from Cockram Nissan. We knew that they had had the vehicle in question( Trade in) for quite some time, and would be celebrating wildly. It was a sort of dark red with crimson velour upholstery, and, of course, the mirrors on the front guards. We never saw him again and we often wondered what had happened to him when he got home and showed his wife what he had bought.
  16. what can go wrong Mojo...you end up with what you`re looking for, correct ?... you`ve been after one for a while, and now you`re about to own one, if it costs you a few bucks to get it even nicer, who cares ? Read the thread about replacing a clutch on an M5...
  17. Just checked out Ron`s website, and of course it`s all about Rangiora bakery and their stunning products. They had a shop in the CBD as well. And Merivale. Ron is correct...magic operation and it has been for a long time..
  18. Is it my imagination, or has the last girl pictured in Mojo`s post just sat on a drawing pin....or worse ???
  19. Cheers Blue, the Road works are getting worse as we gear up this year for the `Core rebuild projects`...Ahem..Of course if you want your effing house fixed...well please stay in the queue. Graham...Do not get me started on 928`s. I saw one go around a corner ( I was behind it) in Bealey Ave ChCh years ago, and I haven`t been the same since. I`ve also never driven one..funny that ..
  20. This post has a life of its own Sam...guess what, you and the Kopua Cowboy are driving the vehicles of choice as well !!! The Cowboy is also onto the fruitfly, first postulated here by the good Blue 540...
  21. Mojo...my bud. This is one hell of a thread. I am going back to work on Monday. Full of New Year`s resolutions etc. But I need to see you in a new Bimmer by next weekend. This is important stuff. i`m off now..work tomorrow. Buy something. Please....
  22. Mojo...you know what we think. For heaven`s sake buddy, it`s got a Pollen Filter ! Hit the button..now.
  23. When the E34 came out the motoring press regarded it as the best BMW yet made. When the e39 came out the motoring press called it the best car in the world. Google it. I`ve owned both now.The E39 is also regarded as one of the best `bang for your buck` used cars going. Just don`t expect to buy a perfect one. The secret is to wait about 12 years before taking the plunge. This is precisely the strategy that Mojo is using with his E36 328 search, which at present has half of this country`s BMW community( Including recent arrivalsfrom the UK) biting their nails and urging him on.
