E36 M3 Turbo Part 2
ecko_complex replied to ecko_complex's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
Well I got the car back today, and holy hell I've never experienced anything like it before. Everything is a complete blur . Amazingly traction is not an issue what so ever, only hard launching and hard shifting spin the tyres but given that my clutch is standard I'll be granny shifting for a while anyway . I took it out for a bit of a spin and it's pretty much the ideal way to lose your license or kill yourself, 50-160 in 3rd gear is just shrugged off within seconds (don't ask how I know). Haha yeah, should be a interesting race given that your car would way about a million kg less . As far as I know . True, I actually managed to sell a few rides tonight. Hmm, could turn this in to a business . -

I know it's different, but it wasn't an issue before the tune (100rwhp less). Now - not sure yet, I don't get the car back for a few days. There's still a bit of tidying up to do. -

I put some pretty wide wheels on the back, so the car shouldn't meet a tree too soon. -

Do it! After having to walk everywhere, having to use public transport and living on Pak'n'Save noodles I've realized it's all worth it . -

Nah it's not an EVO unfortunatley . That's 400hp at the wheels btw, which is about 460 at the flywheel , so about 200hp more -

Here's a little video of it doing a Dyno pull: M3_Turbo_Dyno.wmv New injectors (bright green wooo): Engine: The blue hose is the sump breather pipe that breathes air/oil into the intake naturally, but because its FI it will put pressurized air into the sump which isn't good! So it's being re-routed else where... -

Well here's what you've all been waiting for! A picture of the M3 on the dyno I may as well post the dyno sheet: 400RWHP and 1360 torques (what ever they may be) , and it's only limited by the clutch and turbo size. And the boost graph: NZEFI have done a ****ing brilliant job on this! -
M3 exhaust/headers/cams are a good (but terribly expensive) mod. Your best bet is the usual: intake, exhaust, ecu and 325 intake manifold. There was a drag race video on YT comparing a 328 with and one without the 325 manifold and there was a significant (1-2 car length) difference, I don't think you need to be concerned about the mid-range torque loss.
-
That's seriously nice, excellent taste in every mod .

The commentary during the opening show was so infuriating and pointless. It ruined a really great show. I remember the idiot commenting on all the athletes "these days" having portable cameras (as opposed to a fixed camera!?) and DVD's, I didn't see one athlete with a DVD :S. I gave up on TVNZ's coverage from that moment on.

Have been keeping my eye on E46 M3's, who's willing to bet they will end up facing the same major flaw as the E36: too many on the road, too many badly modded ones and lots of fake M3's? For the price, an e39 M5 is a much better buy as it will have less k's, be a later model, be faster, is more rare, better interrior, have four doors and will retain its value for much longer. Saying that, once mint e46's hit 30k I think I'll park one in my garage .

E36 M3 Turbo Part 2

That's what I said to them, but seeing as that bug means: new turbo, external waste gate + fabrication and a thick head gasket (or better) things are going to get exponentially more expensive from here. So I think I'll be forced to leave it as is after this. Biggest problem is that I'm not a mechanic so I can't DIY (70% of the cost has been labor so far). Not to mention things in the engine bay are already tight as a nun, I've had to loose fog lights and AC... Nice car by the way . -

Ah that's right, it is. The BMW ecu has one built in, which apparently is quite rare.I got the call today, I'm up for 6 new injectors and a fuel pump (plus rewiring the fuel pump). Apparently the 6 injectors already in the motor were barely enough for it's stock power . I think 470cc injectors are going in, no idea on the fuel pump though. -
Following on from my previous thread, my car is in the process of getting a full replacement ECU and proper tuning. So this will be the tuning thread . Since my car was completed mechanically, it went into storage for 4 months while I went on a rather large holiday to Bangkok. Since I got back I've been collecting my 10c pieces in a jar so that I can make some serious power out of the setup. Since tuning is the "secret" to BMW FI I took it to the masters of tuning; NZEFI. It has been in their shop for about 2.5 weeks now and they've got the car up and running on the new ECU. For the ECU I managed to source a Link G4 before it even came out. Most importantly it does the VANOS too. The ECU mostly installed: Ignitior: Boost controller: Engine bay - intake manifold: The car has been up and running, but once there was a pressure test done there was a (slight!) leak discovered in some hose that goes from the intake manifold to the sump (don't quote me on that): As for fueling, the injectors/pump are being flow tested and will be upgraded if need be. It hits the Dyno next week for tuning, so expect an update with videos and Dyno print outs .

That sucks, what a mental case! Reminds me of a similar situation with a dude on a Harley... I was on a two lane road, me on the right lane him on the left, both took off at the same speed (normal speed) and we get to this red light and he goes berserk for being up his ass (on a two lane road in opposite lanes!?) but then realizes there's 3 tall guys and a big Russian in the car and shuts up haha. Don't know what might have happened if it were only me...

Heh, I've had some idiot with an Integra say to me "Oh you've put M3 wing mirrors on it like mine." Luckily to the trained eye there's a million tell-tale signs it's an actual M3. To some that's a bonus, I feel it goes both ways. When you spend the extra money on an M3 you kind of want it to look different to a 318 but nothing extravagant. The e30 M3 is perfect in that sense... But then again I can drive down the boy racer streets at 12 on a Friday and cops don't even notice I'm there.
-
A completely pointless argument IMO, they're both fantastic cars and everyone is going to have personal preferences. But here's my opinion... Having owned an e30 320i last year while my M3 was getting done I was more than happy to get back into the M3, but I'll definably own an e30 M3 one day. The biggest problem is that E36's have become cheapened by the large amount of them on the street, half wearing fake M3 badges and the rest bearing horrid modifications. I'm tempted to sell up and get an e39 M5 because of it. BMW screwed up the e36 in a few ways, offering motorsport kits on non-m3's and not making the M3 visually different (i.e no wide body >_<). But at the end of the day they're both excellent and incomparable, I'd like to have both e30 and e36 M3's.

I've had an iPhone for about 6 months and I'm less than impressed. It's quite simply a fashion accessory. I would have been much happier spending the same amount of money on a Nokia N series (best phones in the world).

Go to Pauls Audio (30 Fitzgerald Ave), they know everything .
-
Yeah that's pretty damn nice. Why was the VANOS removed?
-
Welcome! I saw photos from the previous owner, it's a very nice car - good choice .
-
o_O you're right .. it looks crooked .. Photoshop to the rescue!
-
Haha, the umbrella pic is probably the best . Victor took some awesome shots. @Creaver: No Photoshop, just skill . @mpulsive: I have a Milltek 'track' exhaust .

Put my name down, that way I can break 3 and still be ok...
