I did one on the cheap a couple years ago.. 885 325i head onto a 2.7 ETA bottem end, running motronic 1.3 ecu and a 325i ECU. Just all stock parts put together, pretty much all m20b25 parts except the block was a ETA block with 10.2:1 pistons. Compared to the m20b20 I had before the swap, the difference is insane.

Thats exactly what I'm replacing on my rack in about half n hour, I just bought a new one from Gavin (euro italian) for like $50. It's the Inner tie rod end. Looks pretty straightforward to swap. http://www.e30tech.com/articles/steering/tierods/

Manuals have lower ratios like 3.46, 3.64, 3.73, 3.91 I think Autos had more like 4.1, 4.27, 4.45. I guess it all depends what ratio you want to go for. With a high ratio diff from an Auto, the gears will be shorter, with a lower ratio diff the gears will be longer.

I should aye lol. m50 head recon'd and manifolds etc ready to be assembled again. Another resonator, this ones chambered and not straight through like the one infront of it. Hopefuly be alot quieter than it was.

Great thing about it, if you own one you can park Anywhere. Not much anyone else can do about it.
-
I'd remove the fuse for it, for now so you can atleast operate your car without it being on all the time.
-
Looks pretty hardout and it's LHD too. Imported?
-
It goes around the front / rear crank seal (it's apart of it) whichever end that was. If you pulled that out you should replace the seal..
-
Found somewhere who were more than happy to help out, taking it there on Monday. Will also be able to get the sump guard modded to fit under the m50 sump there too. Score!

Whats the dreaded rollover?

Holy hell. Epic bottom out. Is that the oil pump he's picking up afterwards?
-

Yes well we will see tomorrow.. Would not be the first time I have had half-done jobs finished / helped on where I have not had the tools / knowledge to do something and they have done it. I think the fact they have only a couple guys in their work shop now and it's really busy they don't want to take on such a big project. Hoping with the vast proportion of the job done they can chip a hand in and sus the head maybe.
-
No I first asked and they said no to begin with. I haven't been able to talk with the guy I need to, to ask if they will do it how it is now. It's just a head on the block at this stage. I take responsibility for installing everything else.
-
"They don't want to take responsibility for it", "not a stock configuration they don't know what they could be getting into" ? They want me to talk to the aftersales manager or whoever because he is the one that said no to the job, so I have to ring him later today and convince him.

link Have a read, Page #7.

Ugh too many tools to do this properly, by the time I find / buy everything I need like the special chain tensioning tool and cam alignment tool, sockets etc. Going to ring and beg Jeff grays tomorrow haha.
-
Yep, Jeff grey don't want to touch it even if I brought it into them at the stage it's at now - which is everything removed and just needs the head taken off. Sooo going to have to find an e12 torx socket and how to do the timing chain stuff.
